Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) in Middle Eastern Studies

Tinker Foundation Grants for Research in Latin America and the Caribbean (UA only)
The Tinker Foundation supports travel expenses for master’s and pre-dissertation fieldwork in Spanish/Portuguese-speaking Latin American or Caribbean countries during Summer 2018 (May through August). Aga Khan Foundation for International Students
Students from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, Madagascar, France, Portugal, UK, USA and Canada may be eligible for funding from the Aga Khan Foundation. A limited number of scholarships are provided each year to outstanding students from developing countries with no other means of financing their studies. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant, 50% loan basis through a competitive application process once a year in June or July. The Foundation gives priority to requests for Master's level courses but is also willing to consider applications for PhD programs, when doctoral degrees are necessary for the career objectives of the student.

Grand Canyon Research Scholarship
The Grand Canyon Historical Society is a non-profit organization operating to develop and promote appreciation, understanding and education of the earlier history of the inhabitants and important events of the Grand Canyon and surrounding area; and to lawfully do any and all things necessary, suitable and proper for the accomplishment of these purposes. Mathematica Policy Research Summer Fellowships
The Summer Fellowship Program at Mathematica Policy Research welcomes doctoral students to spend 12 weeks at one of Mathematica’s six office locations. Fellows will work on their own independent research project, which will intersect with one or more of Mathematica’s focus areas: Data analytics, Disability, Early childhood, Education, Employment, Environment, Family support, Health, International development, Nutrition. The Information Controls Fellowship Program (ICFP) cultivates research, outputs, and creative collaboration on topics related to repressive internet censorship and surveillance. Property and Environmental Research Center Fellowships
PERC's fellowships for graduate students and law students offer the ideal opportunity for those who are interested in researching issues related to natural resources and the environment. Graduate fellows spend three months at PERC in Bozeman, Montana, researching and writing a paper under the supervision of a PERC senior fellow. Houston Center for Contemporary Craft Residency Program
Applicants must be able to fulfill a program requirement of working in their studios for two days per week during HCCC public hours. Kerouac Project Residencies for Writers
The Kerouac Project provides four residencies a year to writers of any stripe or age, living anywhere in the world. In the past we have accepted writers with no formal writing education alongside those with MFA’s and impressive résumés. You will be judged on the quality of the writing sample you submit. Each residency consists of approximately a three month stay in the cottage where Jack Kerouac wrote his novel Dharma Bums. Utilities and a food stipend of $1,000 are included. As writer-in-residence, all you are required to do is live in the Kerouac House during your residency, work on your writing project, and participate in two events—a Welcome Potluck dinner for you, and a Final Reading of your work at the Kerouac House at the end of your residency.

Library Company of Philadelphia Program in Early American Economy and Society Fellowships
The Program in Early American Economy and Society (PEAES) at the Library Company of Philadelphia invites applications for dissertation and short-term fellowships. These research fellowships are designed to promote scholarship in early American economy and society, broadly defined, from its colonial beginnings to the 1850s. American Geological Society (AGS) Summer/Fall Semester Internship in Public Policy
AGI seeks outstanding geoscience students with a strong interest in federal science policy for a semester-long internship in geoscience and public policy in the Government Affairs Program. American Water Resources Association – Richard A. Herbert Memorial Scholarship
In 1980, AWRA established the Endowment-Memorial Fund to be used for the enhancement of education in water resources. The fund has since been renamed the Richard A. Herbert Memorial Educational Fund to honor Richard A. Herbert -- a champion for water resources education -- who passed away in 1994. At least one $2,000 scholarship will also be awarded to a full-time graduate student enrolled in a program relating to water resources for the 2017-2018 academic year. The scholarship will be awarded to the student most qualified by academic performance. Measures of academic performance include the cumulative grade point average, relevance of the student's curriculum to water resources, and leadership in extracurricular activities related to water resources.

Annie’s Homegrown Agriculture Scholarships
Scholarships support students who advance the principles of regenerative agriculture. STEM Majors Scholarship for Graduate Diversity Students
For the 2018-2019 academic year scholarships of $3,000 will be awarded to full-time students (women and minority students), enrolled in their second semester and at least two semester-equivalent courses) currently pursuing a graduate degree at any accredited academic institution in the United States in an eligible major that supports the mission of AFCEA Educational Foundation. World Wildlife Fund – Russell E. Train Fellowships for International Students
Russell E. Train Fellowships support individuals pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in conservation. Each year, WWF supports committed conservationists from target countries to receive financial support for their studies and field research. Applicants can apply to attend any university around the world and must return to their home countries to work in conservation for at least two years after completing their degree.

American Council of Learned Societies Public Fellows
CLS invites applications for the eighth competition of the Mellon/ACLS Public Fellows program. This year, the program will place up to 25 recent PhDs from the humanities and humanistic social sciences in two-year term staff positions at partnering organizations in government and the nonprofit sector. Fellows will participate in the substantive work of these organizations and receive professional mentoring.

Army Research Laboratory (ARL) Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Army Research Laboratory (ARL) invites exceptional young researchers to apply for the ARL Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship. This fellowship provides recipients the opportunity to pursue independent research while working alongside some of the nation's best scientists and engineers. Applicants must have completed all the requirements for a Ph.D. or Sc.D. degree in the physical sciences, life sciences, computational sciences, behavioral sciences, or engineering and must be within three years from the date of their degree at the time of application. Selected fellows must pass a Department of Defense clearance process, requiring a background security investigation. Applicants must demonstrate exceptional qualifications with respect to academic and scholarly achievement, as evidenced by research and publication.

National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA) Postdoctoral Fellowship
Fellowships offer postdoctoral research opportunities in earth science, heliophysics, planetary science, astrophysics, space bioscience, aeronautics and engineering, human exploration and space operations, and astrobiology. Fellows participate in NASA mission-related activities as guests at NASA Centers, Headquarters, and other NASA-approved sites. Each Fellowship is tied to a specific research opportunity located at a NASA Center. The fellow must relocate to the Center for the duration of the fellowship. In the case of virtual Centers such as the NASA Astrobiology Institute, the fellow must relocate to the university location of the advisor listed on the research opportunity. The fellowships are for 1-3 years.
Citizenship: U.S. citizenship, Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) status, or the Exchange Visitor J-1 Visa (research scholar only) before beginning the fellowship.

United Nations University Institute of Advanced Study of Sustainability
UNU offers PhD and Postdoctoral Fellowships to provide young scholars and policymakers, especially from the developing world, with a multidisciplinary context within which to pursue advanced research and training that are of professional interest to the successful applicant and of direct relevance to the research agenda of their selected UNU-IAS or UNU Centre for Policy Research (UNU-CPR) programme. The Fellowship Programmes provide the successful applicant with a unique opportunity to develop and advance their research under the supervision of a UNU-IAS or UNU-CPR faculty member and contribute to the overall research agenda of the Institute; widen their research interests and professional networks by working in the international and multi-disciplinary context of UNU-IAS and UNU-CPR, and with their wider network of Japanese universities and research institutes, as well as international collaborators; become exposed to the workings of international and multilateral policy processes and the broader UN system; and link with other UNU-IAS and UNU-CPR PhD and Postdoctoral Fellows.
