Hello,

I hope this note finds you well.

It's only been one week but I've heard back from only a few of you, so I'm
writing to encourage your participation regarding the items below. In
particular, we have the opportunity to nominate speakers for next semesters
seminar series.

Please also indicate your availability for a grad student meeting, and
consider mentoring for the undergraduate student club. See below:

I'm writing to welcome you (back) for the fall semester, and to begin some
dialogue regarding important items and events:

1. Spring semester grad-selected speaker. Dave and Mark have asked that the
graduate students select a speaker for the plant sciences semester series
this upcoming spring. To get us going, I have shared the Google Drive list
of potential speakers that were nominated last year. Junpeng, Jen, Kelly,
and Evan - you have nominees from last year - please review them and remove
any that should no longer be considered. To all, please take the time to
nominate a speaker of your choice by providing a brief biosketch for us all
to consider. This is a great opportunity to bring to the UA colleagues,
potential employers, and just plain cool science.

2. Grad club position elections. The plant sciences graduate student club
(of which you are a member) will have its first meeting of the semester
sometime soon. In addition to our normal agenda, we will work to elect new
officials to help keep the club organized. Please consider volunteering for
a position, as well as others who may be fit for one. Please respond to the
Doodle poll below to indicate your availability for this first club meeting:

3. Grad directory for PLS undergrad club members. In the past we had
started a Google Drive document showcasing the PLS graduates and their
interests, for the purpose of providing a resource for undergraduate
students interested in pursuing science. Mentorship commitment could range
from email-only dialogue, to more involved, in-person discussions and/or
meetings. If you are interested please provide/update your information here:

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you and best wishes,

--
