Dear Graduate Students,
The UA Graduate College Office of Fellowships and Community Engagement is pleased to offer the following series of workshops for students working on fellowship applications.

Planning a Fellowship Application (RSVP here<https://grad.arizona.edu/ofce/planning-fellowship-application>)
Session One: Tuesday, June 9 from 9:00 - 11:00 in University Services Building Room 209
Session Two: Wednesday, June 10 from 9:00 - 11:00 in University Services Building Room 209 (repeat of the June 9 workshop)
In this workshop, we will discuss how to read an RFP, resources for gathering information, determining review criteria and assessing the audience, asking for letters of recommendation, and further considerations. By the end of the workshop, you will have a clear plan for completing your application. Please come with a fellowship in mind.
The Personal Statement/Description of Previous Research (RSVP here<https://grad.arizona.edu/ofce/personal-statementdescription-previous-research>)
Session One: Wednesday, June 24 from 9:00 - 11:00 in University Services Building Room 214
Session Two: Thursday, June 25 from 9:00 - 11:00 in University Services Building Room 214 (a repeat of the June 24 workshop)
Working with a variety of examples, we will discuss approaches to the personal statement and/or description of previous research. We will consider various approaches to organizing this section of the application and how to determine what to include and exclude. Further, we will develop strategies for creating a cohesive story in the application that speaks to the review criteria.
Research Proposals for Fellowship Applications (RSVP here<https://grad.arizona.edu/ofce/research-proposals-fellowship-applications>)
Session One: Monday, July 6 from 9:00 - 11:00 in University Services Building Room 216
Session Two: Tuesday, July 7 from 9:00 - 11:00 in University Services Building Room 216 (a repeat of the July 6 workshop)
In this workshop, participants will work on shaping a solid research proposal for a fellowship application. Using examples, we will discuss elements of a strong research question and hypothesis. We will cover research methods and analysis of data. Additionally, we will develop strategies to establish the significance of a research proposal both to one's discipline and to a larger audience.
Revision and the Review Process (RSVP here<https://grad.arizona.edu/ofce/revision-and-review-process>)
Session One: Tuesday, July 28 from 9:00 - 11:00 in University Services Building Room 216
Session Two: Wednesday, July 29 from 9:00 - 11:00 in University Services Building Room 216 (a repeat of the July 28 workshop)
By the end of this workshop, you should have a solid understanding of the review process and a clear plan for revising your application materials. We will discuss writing groups and strategies for getting the most helpful advice. We will also practice reviewing application essays to get a sense of the reviewer's experience. This workshop will help clarify the final stage of the fellowship application process.
If you have questions about the workshops above, contact me, Shelley Hawthorne Smith at ssmith at grad.arizona.edu<mailto:ssmith at grad.arizona.edu>. I look forward to working with those of you who can attend!
Shelley
