PhD students. Students: if you are interested in being nominated by the
School, please discuss with your mentor and then *please contact me no
later than Oct. 24.*

Please note the eligibility criteria (students must be US citizens and
should have 2-3 years remaining in their doctoral studies, etc.).

The ARCS Foundation has put a call out for nominations of outstanding
doctoral degree seeking graduate students for the 2015-16 ARCS Foundation
Scholarship. The award provides a $9,000 stipend ($7,000 from ARCS and
$2,000 from the Graduate College), full tuition, and a $500 annual travel
grant from the Graduate College. The award may extend up to 3 years,
however awarded Scholars must re-apply annually.

The ARCS® Foundation members are a group of women philanthropists
interested in advancing science and technology nationwide since the mid
1950’s. The Phoenix Chapter alone has provided over 4 million dollars to
Scholars at UA, ASU, and NAU. This is a rare opportunity for budding
scientists and engineers to learn how to present their research to donors.


Eligible Fields:

Agriculture and Life Sciences - Animal Sciences, Agriculture and
Biosystems, Plant Sciences, Veterinary Sciences and Microbiology (of
particular interest is research related to crop production, ranching, or
farming)

Engineering – Aerospace and Mechanical, Chemical and Environmental, Civil,
Electrical and Computer

Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs - Applied Mathematics, Biomedical
Engineering, Cancer Biology, Genetics, Neuroscience, Physiological
Sciences, Statistics
​; ​
Medicine – Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Immuniobiology
​ ​
Optical Sciences
​; ​
Astronomy, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer Science, Geoscience,
Hydrology, Mathematics, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Physics


Student Eligibility

•

U.S. citizen only
•
​ ​
Admitted to a UA doctoral degree program
•
​ ​
Has a well-developed research focus in the science and engineering fields
and a strong commitment to complete his or her doctoral degree
•
​ ​
Preferably 2 to 3 years remaining until completion of degree as the ARCS
Foundation members and donors like to “mentor” the selected awardees from
year to year
•
​ ​
3.5 or higher GPA


Application    Deadline is Nov 17, 2014 by 5:00 PM

1.      The eligible academic unit may nominate up to 3 candidates
including any current ARCS Foundation Scholars

2.      Submit ONE PAPER COPY  (attached) to Dorian Voorhees, Graduate
College, Admin 322

3.      Letter of recommendation may be sealed or open but must accompany
the application. We recommend a strong letter of recommendation from
faculty advisor that highlights the nominee’s research, communication,
entrepreneurial skills and/or accomplishments and speaks about the student
as a gifted scientist or engineer and as a person.

4.      Please note that University Representative is Dorian Voorhees,
Assistant Dean, Graduate (on page 3 of the application).


Selection Process:  A Graduate College selection committee will review and
select up to 35 applications to be forwarded to the ARCS® Foundation
Scholarship Committee for consideration of award. Number of awards range
from 18 to 20.
