Gladstone Library has numerous scholarships to support research at their facilities. Areas supported range from research in the Franciscan Order, to Nineteenth Century Studies, the interaction of Science and Religion, to Spirituality. Scholarships cover use of the Library and the cost of dinner, bed and breakfast, but not the cost of travel to and from the Library.

2. Inter-American Foundation IAF Grassroots Development Fellowship Program http://www.iie.org/Programs/IAF-Grassroots-Development-Fellowship-Program
IAF's Fellowships provide support for Ph.D. candidates to conduct dissertation research in Latin America and the Caribbean on topics related to grassroots development. The Inter-American Foundation expects to award up to 15 Doctoral Field Research Fellowships in 2014. Funding is for between four and 12 months.
Fellowships are available to currently registered students who have advanced to candidacy (by the time research begins) for the Ph.D. in the social sciences, physical sciences, technical fields and the professions as related to grassroots development issues. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or citizens of independent Latin American and Caribbean countries except Cuba. Research must be conducted in independent Latin American and Caribbean countries, except Cuba, Puerto Rico, or the Dutch, French and British territories. Language proficiency and an affiliation are required.
Proposals should offer a practical orientation to field-based information. In exceptional cases the IAF will support research reflecting a primary interest in macro questions of politics and economics but only as they relate to the environment of the poor. The Fellowship Program complements IAF's support for grassroots development in Latin America and the Caribbean, and preference for those applicants whose careers or research projects are related to topics of greatest interest to the IAF.
Benefits include round-trip transportation, a research allowance of $3,000/month, stipend of $1,000/month up to 12 months, insurance, mid-year conference with Fellows. Informational webinars on the program are scheduled for October 8, 10, 16, 18, 22, 24, 28, and 30. See website for times and to register.

3. Jennings Randolph Peace Scholarship Dissertation Program http://www.usip.org/fellows/scholars.html
The Jennings Randolph (JR) Peace scholarship Dissertation Program awards scholarships to students at U.S. universities who are writing doctoral dissertations with clear relevance for policy and practice in the field of international peacebuilding and conflict management. Peace Scholar Awards are currently set at $20,000 for 10 months.
Each year the program awards approximately ten Peace Scholar Fellowships. The fellowships last for 10 months, starting in September. Fellowships are open to citizens of any country and dissertation projects in all disciplines are welcome.

Primarily for Canadian citizens or "foreign nationals with a preference for candidates from the developing world." Academic interests should relate to one or more of The Trudeau Foundation's themes: Human Rights and Dignity, Responsible Citizenship, Canada in the World, and People in their Natural Environment. Applicants must be nominated by a University. The Trudeau Doctoral Scholarship is tenable for three years. During their third year, Trudeau Scholars may apply for a thesis writing scholarship or a dissemination scholarship, for a fourth year of financing. A stipend of up to $40,000 per year intended to cover the cost of tuition, reasonable living expenses as well as training and development. The award consists of a two-year fellowship of $27,000 per year for two years (total of $54,000) to be used for the Fellow's academic year and summer stipend. Tenable in the US and Canada. The Fellowship fosters education and innovation in the societal production and utilization of energy.

7. Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program, U.S. Department of Commerce/National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration http://fosterscholars.noaa.gov
NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries is seeking applications for the Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program from individuals, particularly women and minorities, who, due to financial constraints, may otherwise not be able to pursue an advanced degree in oceanography, marine biology, or maritime archaeology (including all science, engineering, social science, and resource management of ocean and coastal areas). The program seeks to increase the number of women and minorities in these scientific disciplines, particularly as they relate to the mission of the Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (ONMS). The Office of National Marine Sanctuaries conducts, sponsors, and facilitates research to better understand ecosystems and cultural resources in marine sanctuaries, their changing condition, and the significance of threats.
Scholarships provide yearly support of up to $42,000 per student (a 12-month stipend of $30,000, in addition to an education allowance of up to $12,000), and up to $10,000 support for a 4-6 week research collaboration at a NOAA facility. A maximum of $94,000 for master's students or $188,000 for 4 years of doctoral support may be provided.

8. National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship Program http://ndseg.asee.org/
Funded through the U.S. Department of Defense and administered by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), this Fellowship has a 36 month tenure with extensions under certain circumstances. The Fellowship stipend includes $30,500 in the first year; $31,000 in the second year; and $31,500 in the third year. Full tuition and fees, and health insurance up to $1000/year are also included. DOD expects to award approximately 200 new awards in April 2014, subject to availability of funding.
Limited to U.S. citizens and nationals intending to pursue a doctoral degree in, or closely related to, an area of DoD interest within one of the following disciplines: 1. Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering 2. Biosciences 3. Chemical Engineering 4. Chemistry 5. Civil Engineering 6. Cognitive, Neural, and Behavioral Sciences 7. Funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, and administered by the American Society for Engineering Education. Stipends range from $25,000 to $38,000 depending on prior educational experience. It includes paid summer internships, a health insurance reimbursement of $1200/year, a book allowance of $1,000/academic year, mentoring, and employment placement after graduation. The Program is open to graduate and undergraduate students with U.S. citizenship.
This program is an opportunity for students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines to receive a full scholarship and be gainfully employed upon degree completion. The fellowship supports a 12-month residential experience in Washington, D.C., with additional support for health policy leadership development activities. The program seeks exceptional mid-career health professionals and behavioral and social scientists with an interest in health and health care, and prepares individuals to influence the future of health care and accelerate their own career development.
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) conducts and administers the fellowship with funding support from and in collaboration with RWJF. Up to six fellows will be awarded up to $165,000 in 2014. Fellowship funds of up to $104,000 may be used for the residential stay from Sept. 2014 to Aug. 2015.

Postdoctoral Opportunities

The EI Fellows program provides innovative postdoctoral scholars with the opportunity to build a foundation in one of the core disciplines represented within the Earth Institute (i.e. social, earth, biological, engineering, and health sciences), while at the same time acquiring the breadth of cross-disciplinary expertise needed to address critical issues related to sustainable development. Specific areas of research include food security, energy systems, climate change impacts, poverty reduction, disease, and environmental degradation. The program offers a unique intellectual surrounding that fosters cross-disciplinary interaction, research and education.

12. Lawrence Postdoctoral Fellowship at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, U.S. Department of Energy https://fellowship.llnl.gov/selection.php
The Lawrence Fellowship is a highly-competitive postdoctoral position at LLNL that is open to all technical disciplines. Fellowships are awarded to candidates with exceptional talent, scientific track records, and potential for significant achievements. Typically, two to four fellowships are awarded each year, and the awards are for three years. Fellows are free to pursue their own research agenda under the guidance of a senior staff scientist who serves as a mentor. The fellows most often conduct their research in a collaborative, multidisciplinary manner with others in a team environment.
Applicants must either be in the process of completing their Ph.D. (within one year and employment may not start until Ph.D. requirements have been verified), or have received their Ph.D. degree within five years of being hired as a Lawrence Fellow. US citizenship is not required for application.
Minimum award of $306,000. Starting salary is $8,500/month, and awards are for three years.

The Society for the Humanities will sponsor two postdoctoral teaching-research fellowships in the humanities, each awarded for the two-year period beginning July 2014. Each fellowship offers a stipend of $45,000/year. While in residence at Cornell, Mellon Fellows hold department affiliations and joint appointments with the Society for the Humanities, have limited teaching duties, and the opportunity for scholarly work. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships are available in two areas of specialization.
a. Department of Anthropology: Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in Sovereignty and Representation in the Islamic World Applicants' work should focus on issues of sovereignty and representation as they intersect in the Islamic world from the 8th century to the present.

The Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program admits approximately 600-700 Fellows to federal employment at a variety of agencies, most in the Washington D.C. area. The program includes a two year appointment and rotations at different sites within an agency. There is a two-year window of eligibility for graduates with advanced degrees, including masters, doctoral and professional degrees. Finalists have 12 months to be appointed to a PMF position.
The 2014 application cycle includes a new STEM track for masters, doctorate and professional degrees in 41 STEM - scientific disciplines, as well as a wide variety of general disciplines including law and public administration. The PMF STEM track will help identify and train future STEM leaders for the Federal Government who have an interest in leadership positions at labs and research facilities.

Faculty for the Future fellowships are awarded to women from developing and emerging economies who are preparing for PhD or post-doctoral study in the physical sciences and related disciplines at top universities for their disciplines abroad.
Launched by the Schlumberger Foundation in 2004, the Faculty for the Future community now stands at 321 women from 63 countries. The long-term goal of the Faculty for the Future program is to generate conditions that result in more women pursuing scientific disciplines. Grant recipients are therefore selected as much for their leadership capabilities as for their scientific talents, and they are expected to return to their home countries to continue their academic careers and inspire other young women.

The University of California President's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program encourages outstanding women and minority Ph.D. recipients to pursue academic careers at the University of California. The current program offers postdoctoral research fellowships and faculty mentoring to outstanding scholars in all fields whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to the diversity and equal opportunity at the University of California. The program also offers opportunities for research careers at the UC-affiliated National Laboratories-Lawrence Berkeley, Lawrence Livermore, and Los Alamos National Laboratories. The contributions to diversity may include public service towards increasing equitable access in fields where women and minorities are under-represented. In some fields, the contributions may include research focusing on underserved populations or understanding inequalities related to race, gender, disability or LGBT. The program is seeking applicants with the potential to bring to their academic and research careers the critical perspective that comes from their non-traditional educational background or understanding of the experiences of members of groups historically underrepresented in higher education.
AWARDS AND APPOINTMENTS. Fellowships are awarded for research conducted at any one of the University of California's ten campuses or the three UC-affiliated National Laboratories. The award includes a competitive salary and benefits package including health insurance and paid vacation/sick leave, and up to $5,000 for research-related and program travel expenses. Each award is for a minimum of 12-months and may be renewable for an additional term upon demonstration of academic/research productivity.
ELIGIBILITY. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and must hold or receive a Ph.D. from an accredited university before the start of their fellowship.
