Advice for Searching for Funding

  1. Talk to professors, colleagues in your department, and people at conferences; find out where they got funding.
  2. Do searches on the following databases:
GrantForward (under "more qualifiers" specify "travel")
http://www.grantforward.com/advanced_search

Pivot (under "more search attributes" and "funding type" specify "travel")
http://pivot.cos.com/funding/search

  1. Become familiar with foundations and programs that support U.S. graduate students abroad such as DAAD, Japan Foundation, Korea Foundation, Scandinavian Foundation, etc. Many of the post-doc opportunities listed in the accompanying email also have opportunities for graduate students.

  1. Institute of International Education (IIE) manages the Fulbright, Humphries and many other programs. This is a good gateway site for all things international.
http://www.iie.org/

  1. The Grantsmanship Center's International Funding Sources has a convenient map and list of foundations that provide funding in different regions of the world. This can be a quick way to narrow down the resources you want to research.
http://www.tgci.com/funding.shtml

       4. Stanford Library has a list of Africa Funding Resources
