Dissertation Grants - Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study
The Arthur and Elizabeth Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in
America invites scholars whose dissertation research requires use of the
library's collections to apply for research support.
Applications will be evaluated on the significance of the research and the
project's potential contribution to the advancement of knowledge as well as
its creativity in drawing on the library's holdings. Grants of up to $3,000
will be given on a competitive basis.

Bielefeld Graduate School in History and Sociology Visiting Fellowships
Every year, the BGHS invites four doctoral researchers (two each semester)
from other countries to work at the Graduate School for four to six months
to promote international scientific and cultural exchange. Visiting fellows
have the opportunity to use their stay at the BGHS to work intensively on
their dissertation, visit degree programme courses and build contacts to our
scientific community. The grant consists of a EUR 1,200 stipend per month.
All international doctoral researchers may apply who are matriculated in a
doctoral programme and whose dissertation has a historical, sociological,
social-anthropological or political science focus.

Confluence Center Graduate Fellows (UA only)
The Confluencenter Graduate Fellowships are designed to fund specific
projects for eligible graduate students in an effort to build a community of
scholars to advance innovative interdisciplinary research. Candidates for
selection must demonstrate evidence of innovative scholarship or creative
work that can advance a field in the arts, humanities or social sciences.
Selected students will be part of the first cohort of Confluencenter Fellows
and they will be expected to devote at least one semester to a special
project under this program and to be available to present their results in a
symposium, lecture series or public venue to be determined by
Confluencenter. Graduate students are eligible if they are seeking a
terminal degree of Ph.D. or MFA (as recognized by the Graduate College) in
the College of Humanities (COH), Social and Behavioral Science (SBS) or
College of Fine Arts (CFA) or if they are enrolled in Interdisciplinary
Programs (e.g., American Indian Studies, Second Language Acquisition and
Teaching) with significant research interests in arts, humanities and social
sciences.

Duke University Travel Grants for the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book &
Manuscript Library
Duke University's Rubenstein Library and its research centers provide travel
grants of up to $1000 for researchers whose work would benefit from access
to the collections held at Duke. Currently, travel grants are available for
work in the following research centers: Sallie Bingham Center for Women's
History and Culture; John Hope Franklin Research Center for African and
African American History and Culture; and the John W. Hartman Center for
Sales, Advertizing, and Marketing History. In addition, the Rubenstein
Library is now accepting applications for two new fellowships for scholars
interested in using our German Studies and Jewish Studies collections - the
Eleanore and Harold Jantz Fellowship and Research Fellowships in Jewish
Studies and the Hebrew Bible.

Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute Visiting
Research Fellowships
The Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute invites
fellowship applications by scholars who wish to do research that requires
significant use of the Institute's collections. The fellowship is for the
period of at least one month, for research to be performed during the period
1 July 2013 - 30 June 2014. The Lawrence and Lee Theatre Research Institute
holdings include design and technical theatre collections, personal papers,
and organizational archives.

Lilly Library Fellowships - Indiana University at Bloomington
The Lilly Library invites applications for visiting fellowships for research
in residence in its collections. The Lilly Library is the principal rare
book and manuscript library of Indiana University. Its holdings support
research in British, French, and American literature and history; the
literature of voyages and exploration, specifically the European expansion
in the Americas; early printing, and the Church, children's literature,
music; film, radio and television; medicine, science, and architecture; and
food and drink. The Everett Helm Visiting Fellowship program supports
research and provides access to the collections of the Lilly Library for
scholars residing outside the Bloomington area. The Mendel Fellowships are
intended to support research by scholars from around the world in areas of
particular interest to the Mendels, including: the history of the Spanish
Colonial Empire; Latin American independence movements; European expansion
in the Americas; voyages, travels and exploration; geography, navigation and
cartography; German literature and history; and music, including sheet
music.

New York Public Library Short Term Fellowships
The New York Public Library is pleased to offer Short-Term Research
Fellowships to support visiting scholars from outside the New York
metropolitan area engaged in graduate-level, post-doctoral, and independent
research. Fellowship stipends are $1,000 per week for up to four weeks and
fellows must be in residence at the Library for a minimum of two weeks
between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014. Individuals needing to conduct
on-site research in the Library's special collections to support projects in
the humanities including but not limited to art history, cultural studies,
history, literature, performing arts and photography are welcome to apply.

Opportunities in Science and Engineering
American Floral Endowment (AFE) Scholarships
Most AFE scholarships are for undergraduates, but there are a few that are
open to graduate students. The application process is fairly simple.
James K. Rathmell, Jr Memorial Scholarships for Horticulture Work/Study
Abroad
Jim Rathmell was a horticulture extension specialist at Penn. State
University who promoted communication and cooperation with horticulturists
in other countries. A widely published author, he worked with commercial
growers to implement many outstanding educational programs. The Rathmell
scholarship is awarded to junior or senior level undergraduates or graduate
students who have a specific plan for horticulture work/study outside of the
United States.
John Carew Memorial Scholarship
John Carew, former head of the Department of Horticulture at Michigan State
University, dedicated his career to encouraging and guiding young
horticulturists. He was instrumental in establishing BPI in 1969. The Carew
scholarship is open to graduate students in horticulture, with an interest
in greenhouse crops.
Seed Companies Scholarship
Seed companies - Ball, Pan-American, Goldsmith, and Novartis are leaders in
the seed production and breeding industry, providing new, improved varities.
These seed companies co-operatively sponsor this scholarship. The Seed
companies scholarship requires students to have a career goal within the
seed industry and be junior or senior level undergraduates or graduate
students.

American Geological Society (AGS) Fall Semester Internship in Public Policy
AGI seeks outstanding geoscience students with a strong interest in federal
science policy for a semester-long internship in geoscience and public
policy in the Government Affairs Program. Representing the geoscience
community in Washington, DC, the program actively works with Congress and
federal agencies to foster sound public policy in areas that affect
geoscientists, including water, energy, and mineral resources; geologic
hazards; environmental protection; and federal funding for geoscience
research and education. Interns will gain a first-hand understanding of the
legislative process and the operation of executive branch agencies.

Gerald O. Mott Scholarship for Meritorious Graduate Students in Crop Science
The Gerald O. Mott Scholarship is provided to a meritorious graduate student
in crop science. The scholarship is supported by gifts from the Gerald O.
Mott family to the Agronomic Science Foundation (ASA) and administered by
the Crop Science Society of America(CSSA). In 2013, CSSA will award either
four scholarships at $2500 each, or two scholarships at $5000 each. Nominees
will have completed at least one year of graduate work leading to a M.S. or
Ph.D. degree in a field of emphasis within any of the CSSA divisions.
Nominees are required to be CSSA or ASA members.

National Water Research Institute Fellowships
The National Water Research Institute (NWRI) is now accepting applications
for graduate fellowship funding for the 2012/2013 academic year. Areas of
interest include water and waste water, membrane technologies, removing and
reducing salts from water supplies, and preserving water resources.
Eligibility: Applicants must be graduate students (Master's or Ph.D. level)
who are (1) conducting research in the areas of water resources, treatment,
and/or policy and (2) are currently enrolled at a university in the United
States.

UA/NASA Space Grant Program
The UA/NASA Space Grant Program and nominating departments provide six
graduate fellowships per year to exceptional graduate students interested in
promoting the understanding of space-related research to the public and who
are studying in space sciences/engineering, public policy, earth sciences,
science education, and global change-related fields. The fellowship,
co-sponsored by UA/NASA Space Grant and the applicant's nominating
Department, includes a stipend of $16,000 for one or two years, both in- and
out-of-state fee/tuition waivers, student health insurance, and $750/year
for travel to professional meetings. A candidate must be a graduate student
at The University of Arizona pursuing degrees in Planetary Sciences,
Astronomy, Physics, Earth Sciences and Global Change-related fields
(Atmospheric Sciences, Geosciences, Hydrology and Water Resources,
Geography, Ecology and others) Evolutionary Biology, Mathematics, Remote
Sensing and Spatial Analysis, and in space-related fields in any college or
fields that use space-related science and tools (e.g. Public Policy, the

Program
The Japanese Association of University Women (JAUW) announces the
availability of fellowships for women who are carrying out or would like to
carry out independent research or advanced study at the postgraduate level
in Japan. Applicants must have received a Master's degree or its equivalent
and/or be in the pre-doctoral or dissertation level of a PhD program.
Applicants must have an acceptance letter from a host institution in Japan.
This grant is for 5 to 6 months between September 2013 and March 2014.

Technology
The NASA Fellowship in the History of Space Technology, offered by SHOT and
supported by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
History Division, will fund one predoctoral or postdoctoral fellow for up to
one academic year to undertake a research project related to the history of
space technology. The fellowship may support advanced research related to
all aspects of space history, leading to publications on the history of
space technology broadly considered, including cultural and intellectual
history, institutional history, economic history, history of law and public
policy, and history of engineering and management.

Society for the History of Technology Kranzberg Dissertation Fellowship
The Melvin Kranzberg Dissertation Fellowship is presented annually to a
doctoral student engaged in the preparation of a dissertation on the history
of technology, broadly defined. The $4,000 award is unrestricted and may be
used in any way that the winner chooses to advance the research and writing
of his or her dissertation. Possible uses include underwriting the costs of
travel to archival collections; photocopying or microfilming; translation of
documents; and so on. The award may not be used for university tuition or
fees.

Calaude Leon Foundation Postdoctoral Program (Science, Engineering, Medical
Sciences)
The Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme in the Sciences is one of the
principal programmes of the Claude Leon Foundation. The Trustees of the
Foundation seek to upgrade research at South African universities in the
faculties of Science, Engineering and Medical Sciences by making awards to
both South African and foreign postdoctoral scientists, who should increase
