On behalf of Mana Ohkura:

Hello all!

At today's student lunch with Dr. Yadegari, we discussed potentially
starting a Plant Science journal club and it would be nice to hear what you
think. It was suggested that we should have a Plant Science-school-wide
journal club instead of splitting it into Plant Science and Plant
Pathology....that way we get to see more of our beautiful faces and we get
to learn things across different subjects....oh my, how exciting! But if
you strongly object or have an opinion about it let us know.

Here are some questions that could help us determine whether it will be
worthwhile putting a journal club together or not and how to run it, so if
you could answer these, it would be greatly appreciated.

-Would you participate (as long as there are no time conflicts)?....By the
way, I won't forward who answered "NO" onto faculty, so please be honest
(you might have another journal club you already attend, you may read lots
of papers by yourself, maybe reading papers make you throw up, etc....)!

-Which faculty members would you nominate to advise it?

-Would you prefer a lunch time get together (I was wondering if this might
cause less conflicts with other class times....we can gather with our
lunches and I haven't discussed this with our president yet, but maybe we
could order pizza once or twice through the graduate student club? watcha
think, prez?!), or a more proper class time?

-Should students be involved in picking papers with the faculty's approval,
or should the faculty pick all the papers?

-Any other comments or suggestions?

If you could send me your answers, I will compile them and send them out
anonymously to those that answered the survey. Please respond by next
Monday (November 7th). Thank you for your cooperation.

Later,

Mana
