<p class="x_MsoNormal">In early 2021, the University embarked on an overhaul of the general education curriculum. One result of this is that all existing general education courses must be adjusted/revamped and reapproved by a university committee for them to
 fulfill the general education requirements for students who matriculated in Spring 2022 or beyond*. Another important change is that now
<b>up to 9 course credits can be ‘double-dipped’ and count towards both the general education requirement and major/minor/elective credits</b>. The university has been accepting applications for revamped/new general education courses in waves and just announced
 that the next submission window for applications will open around March 2023 and that informational workshops will start this month to help instructors prepare their applications.</p>

<p class="x_MsoNormal"><b>If you would like to know more about applying to have one of your existing courses qualify as a general education course, or if you have an idea for a new general education course, you may contact me for guidance

https://ge.arizona.edu/instructor-hub/ge-course-proposals</a>).<b> </b>A course does NOT have to be a 100- or 200-level course to be considered for the new general education program but it should be a course that would not require pre-requisites and that either
 approaches a topic from multiple viewpoints (‘building connections’) or helps students understand how natural scientists approach the world (‘exploring perspectives’).</p>
