Thanks – Olivia<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"'>The Undergraduate Affiliate Network (UAN) under the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) is holding a<b> </b>poster conference<b> BECUR</b> (Biology Engineering Chemistry Undergraduate Research) on <b>February 25, 2012</b> to help provide a forum for undergraduates from regional universities and colleges to communicate and network with each other concerning their research efforts and scientific development. Also, providing the opportunity to develop their presentation skills and gain confidence that will enable them to progress at larger national scientific conferences. Previous years have had amazing successes, with over 80 poster presenters not just from UA, but from other universities and also local high schools, some of which won travel awards to the national ASBMB conference as well as cash prizes.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"'><br>This year we hope for a similar success, so we are recruiting judges from different departments for the conference, in hopes that all the posters can be properly judged and appreciated, and have proper feedback. Also, providing the opportunity to develop their presentation skills and gain confidence that will enable them to progress at larger national scientific conferences.<br> <br><b>Keynote Speaker</b>: Professor Daniel Herschlag (Stanford University School of Medicine). He is known for both his original research on ribozyme catalysis as well as being one of the world’s foremost authorities on the mechanisms of phosphate hydrolysis and phosphoryl transfer.<br> <br><b>History</b>: Last year’s conference was a great success. We had approximately +80 undergraduate poster presenters +6 of whom were selected to give oral presentations. In addition, there were ten high school student posters from Soronan Science Academy and San Miguel High School.
