Dear colleagues,
As you'll recall, in our September faculty meeting, a motion was made to vote on how we assemble our Annual Performance Review Committee. This vote was subsequently held and it was decided by substantial majority that seven nominees (including the chair) would be put forward as a slate for election, as per guidance we agreed upon (below).
• Proposed membership will follow University guidelines: a diversity of faculty representing all ranks and all tracks will be expected. Faculty preferences for service will be considered as possible and as is equitable across unit and for individuals. Nominees will agree to serve if elected.
• The proposed committee of seven, including the proposed Chair, will be voted upon as a slate by the faculty. A simple majority will approve the slate.
Please vote here on the slate of nominees, which follows the guidance above. https://forms.gle/ogoe4cRdLpqBcYUc7. The poll will close on Wednesday, October 22, at 5pm.
Because membership on this committee affects membership (through equity of service commitments) on other committees, this vote is the last piece required to advance our full list of committees. To contextualize this vote, please find the draft of committee assignments in our shared Box, with the understanding that if the slate is not elected, and changes are made, we will revisit committee membership in several cases. The following link should take you to our Box, so long as you are logged in via your NetID. If you have any trouble with accessing our folder, please let me know. https://arizona.box.com/s/9k4wzy67wmcs0ozb00ddch06zcajtfzb.
If you are listed on a committee that has not been activated yet, don't worry - this will happen shortly. More broadly, you will notice some changes in our committee list. This is based in part on feedback from the committee service poll in spring, from emergent needs as we consider our place in the broader landscape of our disciplines, changing needs of students and career paths, and strategic investment. I also endeavor to make important service visible, and I welcome additions should you be 'serving SPLS by serving beyond our unit'. This ethos motivates the first two lists on the first page as well as acknowledgment of GIDP service and similar later in the document.
If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to me. On both a philosophical and practical note, thank you for helping us advance our shared endeavors in our School. Also, please know that it is understood that certain committees or working groups do not meet throughout the year — for example, APP&C / PT&C is largely active in the first quarter of the academic year, whereas APR is largely active in the first quarter of the calendar year, whereas other committees are more active throughout the year. Service remains service, with the overall aim of reasonable requests, equity, fairness, and productivity in the context of our primary roles in research, Extension, and instruction.
Warm regards,
Betsy
