Subject: [Plsfaculty] Request for committee guidelines
Dear colleagues,
At our faculty meeting last week, it was requested that committee chairs in SPLS please put together guidelines for the operation of the committees they lead.
Among various valuable aspects, these can be useful (1) to help establish continuity and best practices for equity and effectiveness, and (2) to make transparent each committee's policies and procedures going forward. No document can capture all details, but a sketch of what we do and how we do it, key dates or activities, etc. can go a long way.
I've set up a Box for this purpose. All current committee chairs in SPLS have been invited to it. Chairs, if you can please deposit your guidelines in this Box in Word format, that will be much appreciated. After we assemble the set we can make them available in a staged process for faculty review.
In the faculty meeting, the due date of March 22 was suggested. Some committees may need to meet or at least exchange drafts among members before a document can be submitted, and it is recognized that this effort is an addition to the service already given by committee members and chair. So, thank you, and please be in touch if you need help or more time.
If you are a committee chair and haven't received the Box invitation, please let me know. Other concerns or questions can please be sent to our Interim Director.
Best regards,
Betsy
