Hi colleagues,

One of the hats I wear is to serve as our SPLS liaison to the W.A. Franke Honors College. I'd like to highlight some nice recent updates from the Honors College's Tori Nardinelli (outfleet at arizona.edu) regarding a terrific funding opportunity for Honors undergraduates, an upcoming symposium for Honors undergraduates to present their work, and some volunteer opportunities for faculty (a great way to start to connect with the Honors College and its programs). Exploratory Mini-Grants

Applications are now open for the next round of mini-grant funds (to be disbursed for the summer and fall 2024 semesters)! Information about the process is available on the website<https://frankehonors.arizona.edu/exploratory-mini-grants> and applications must be submitted by March 15th, 2024. I’m in recruitment season, so please encourage interested students to attend Research Opportunities Info Sessions or Exploratory Mini-Grant Office Hours if they have questions – there will be sessions at least once a week while the application is open (details will be listed in weekly emails that all honors students receive and are listed on our calendar of events<https://frankehonors.arizona.edu/student-experience/events/calendar-events>). Pinnacle

Mark your calendars! Our annual research symposium poster session, Pinnacle, is scheduled for Wednesday, April 24th, 2024, 1-3pm in the Bear Down Gym. Presenter registration<https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bCrx6EkYOeb4onk> is currently open (deadline to sign up is April 3rd), so feel free to encourage your students! All Exploratory Mini-Grant<https://frankehonors.arizona.edu/exploratory-mini-grants> Awardees and Quest<https://frankehonors.arizona.edu/academics/research/first-year-project> students are required to participate, though registration is open to any honors student who is interested in presenting their work at a poster session. We cover poster printing if needed OR up to $50 of funds for other purposes (purchasing professional clothing, etc.) and students can indicate their needs in the registration form linked above. We’d love to have you attend as a guest if you can.



Upcoming Volunteer Requests – Your Help is Greatly Appreciated!

  *   Exploratory Mini-Grant Selection Committee: We’ll need folks to volunteer to evaluate up to 10 mini-grant applications, submit scores/feedback via a Qualtrics form, and attend a virtual Selection Committee meeting to determine awardees.      *   Scoring/Feedback Period (asynchronous): March 22 – April 20
     *   Selection Committee Meeting (Zoom): May 2 (Reading Day), 9:00-11:30am
        *   We strongly prefer that you attend the Selection Committee meeting, but please let me know if you want to review and are unable to attend that meeting; we can make some exceptions if there are good reasons and good feedback [??]
  *   Pinnacle Judges: We’ll need day-of judges to talk with students and submit quick evaluations to help us select winners for the event. The commitment would be to attend Pinnacle (Wednesday, April 24th, 2024, 1-3pm in the Bear Down Gym) and submit the evaluations as you go.
