Dear colleagues,

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone for their service to the unit. Your efforts make us better as a School, and the energy and time you invest are meaningful and appreciated in all aspects of our mission delivery.

With this note, please find our updated list of committees for this academic year<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GwLyMEBj7lmq50rUQQOF8YoSJVzzEyRtKHPKpBdCePs/edit?usp=sharing>. Details are included below for those who might wish to understand more about the committee assignment process, the timing of committee activation, and the sharing of this list.

Warm regards,

Betsy

• Although individual committees were activated by a detailed email setting their charge in August 2024, we have had some late changes through the semester that led me to postpone sharing the full list. We still have a few moving parts, but for the most part, committees are stable now.

• Assignments were based on the spring 2024 survey for interests in committee service, direct communication with faculty members in summer and early fall, and with attention to equity, needs for promotion, our collective sense of burnout and stress, and contributions in 'invisible service' (e.g., search committees that are not listed here — not invisible at all, just not visible in our standard list).

• In general, given our reduced faculty numbers, the committee list features fewer committees and — in some cases — fewer members per committee than in past years. I hope that a product of our faculty conversations over the turn of the calendar year will include reflection on our committees and open discussion should we wish to make changes under a faculty governance model.

• At the moment we do not fulfill our APR Guidelines in that we do not have seven faculty on the APR Committee (the stated expectation from our guidelines). We can discuss the number of members in our next faculty conversation and I will ensure we either agree on a change or reach the required seven members by the start of the next Annual Review cycle.

• Our committees were connected with their duties/scope of work in their activation emails in August, and I have been working directly with several committees to move forward essential functions of the School. Other committees are not yet fully active but will move into a more active role in the near term.

• The working list is subject to updates as personnel needs and special assignments indicate. I am happy to receive any questions or comments you may have. If you are part of a committee that has not been active yet, or has not yet connected with you, feel free to reach out to the chair. If you're a chair, please be sure to include all faculty listed here when working with your committee.

• With many changes in our unit in the last six months, and in the last few years, it's a good time to re-center, think about goals, and look ahead. I look forward to integrating our committees into our unit updates more actively and visibly, with a nice step in that direction to be taken under the leadership of those laying out our agenda for the Retreat (thank you, Retreat Committee, especially Alex B.).
