Subject: Funding award opportunity for graduate students

Dear colleagues,

We have an opportunity to nominate one graduate student from SPLS for the Likins Graduate Fellowship Award, which offers base tuition and a stipend of $10,000. The timeline is short, but the ask is relatively small. If you are interested in having a student in your group considered for nomination, please read on.

Eligibility: international or domestic MS or PhD student in the first or second year of their graduate program at the time of application (not for recruitment or students presently in their third year or later).

Criteria: the award honors "a student who has, due to circumstances of whatever nature, overcome substantial adversity...and demonstrates successful academic progress...In addition to illustrating that adversarial circumstances were overcome, candidates will be evaluated based on their ability to express themselves with passion and vitality."

Procedure to apply for nomination: A student and their major advisor should please submit the attached document to the SPLS Likins Nomination Box by Thursday, April 4 at 5pm. Nominations will be reviewed by members of the SPLS GPSC, and the selected nominee and their advisor will be notified Friday morning, in time to apply for the April 8 deadline.
