Hello all,

We're keeping the registration for the annual SPLS retreat open until Dec. 3 because two students and one postdoc are a little delayed after the Thanksgiving break. Overall, we've had an overwhelmingly positive response from the students. All but two students enrolled in the PLS programs, and all ABBS students considering PLS have registered for the retreat. Although four postdocs have registered, we just found out about the technical obstacle. The postdoc mailing list is outdated and might not have reached all postdocs. If you have a postdoc in the lab, please encourage them to join and contribute to the poster session. They are eligible for the cash prices.

So far, 20 of the 33 faculty in the school have registered, and 4 have excused themselves for other reasons. It would be great if you could encourage missing colleagues to join the retreat by simply asking if they'll join us for research talks from new and old faculty, postdocs, and grad students, discussions about the school, a very populated poster session, highlighting the best student and postdoc research in the department, and most importantly, camaraderie. Let them know that you're going to the retreat too!

Please also register if you can only make it to parts of the retreat. We need the headcount for various bookkeeping reasons. Here's the website with the program and the registration link: https://splsretreat2023.godaddysites.com/

I'm also happy to announce that we have one program addition. David Galbraith invites all faculty and staff to Gentle Ben’s Brewing after the retreat faculty meeting for further discussions and announcements. The upper level and the patio with a heater will be reserved for all of us starting at 3:30 pm. Food will be served.

We hope to see everyone on Dec. 7/8 for a good time together,

Alex, Ravi, Becca, Amritha, and Giovanni
