Subject: Fw: Draft 2023 SPLS APR guidelines review
SPLS faculty, attached is the revised School of Plant Sciences Annual Peer Review Process and Evaluation Criteria document. Please note the items highlighted in yellow. These were discussed at our last faculty meeting, and following some subsequent inquiries were either incorporated as is or were revised. The items of discussion were:
1. faculty members "may" submit self-evaluations but are not required to. They are required to submit self-evaluations only if they are required to meet with the unit director.
2. A Committee Vice-Chair is also selected by the School Director to serve in the Chair’s absence.
3. Changes to APR Processes must be approved before the year in which the review process takes place. Changes to APR Criteria must be approved before the year in which the reviewed performance takes place.
4. The Peer Review Committee evaluation rating is reported for each category using a two-tier Rating Scale. Jeannie McLain says the faculty peer review should only be concerned with meeting or not meeting expectation. It is the unit director's responsibility to weight more closely the different faculty efforts.
5. Additional criteria added; Principal investigator or co-principal investigator on a submitted but not awarded grant
6. The document title was revised to be more concise following Jeannie McLain discussion of removing any differences between tenured and continuing status.
Please review the document closely. Then follow the link below to a single-question survey on whether or not you approve of the revised document.

Please remember, we will have many opportunities to further dial-in, or not, the details of this document in subsequent years. My recommendation is to move this iteration through with approval and prepare for additional revisions in Fall 2023. Cheers.
Barry,
and the 2023 APR committee

Subject: Draft 2023 SPLS APR guidelines review
SPLS faculty, attached are the draft Revised SPLS APR Guidelines reviewed and revised by the current APR committee. There have been a few changes from previous guidelines, most notably the requirement to upload a CV into UAVitae. But there have also been a couple of procedural changes to the review process that have been suggested to us for inclusion into our unit APR Guidelines document. In addition, the committee has highlighted a couple of additional points that we feel need more discussion among the general faculty and perhaps change.
Please review the attached document. The items of interest for closer review and discussion are highlighted in yellow. Following review, we will discuss these points and possible modifications at the upcoming faculty meeting. Finally, the faculty will vote online and anonymously to approve or not approve the revised Guidelines. Please email if you have any questions or just bring them to the faculty meeting. Thanks.
Barry
