Dear faculty:

I would encourage you to think about participating in this. First it is a Good Thing! But also, if you are planning to submit NSF proposals, it is something you can highlight in the outreach section. Rod Wing ran a very successful program at Sunrise, which he highlighted very effectively in his proposals. For all having kids of the appropriate ages, engaging in their science programs is particularly important. I exploded hydrogen in 5th grade classes at Manzanita (not to mention Science Camp up on Mount Lemmon!), talked about advances in microscopy at Orange Grove middle school, and demonstrated DNA gels for the 12th grade classes at Cat Foot. I also donated surplus equipment to the schools.
