Subject: Plant Sciences Outstanding Senior

Dear SPLS faculty,

It is time for the PLS Curriculum Committee to select the Spring 2023 Outstanding Senior for the undergraduate Plant Sciences (PLS) major, and we need your input to help us do that. The student we choose as our PLS Outstanding Senior will go forward into the running for the CALS Outstanding Senior award for Spring 2023, where they will be judged based on academic achievement, membership in student, college, university, and community organizations, and other noteworthy extracurricular affiliations. In other words, we should be looking for a graduating PLS student who has done well, by some meaning of that phrase, both inside and outside the classroom.

We have 4 graduating PLS students this semester:


  *   Michael Weidner
  *   Natasha Meehleib
  *   Cody Dehler
  *   Alexis Garbarczyk

If you have interacted with any of these students inside or outside of a classroom and think they should be considered further for the PLS and CALS Outstanding Senior awards, please send me (orchard at arizona.edu<mailto:orchard at arizona.edu>) a sentence or two explaining why in the next week, through Monday, February 6th. I will then distribute the comments to the PLS Curriculum Committee ahead of our vote.

[Other groups will be working to identify the Outstanding Senior for the undergraduate Applied Biotechnology, Microbiology, and Sustainable Plant Systems majors... if you know of graduating students in any of those majors who you think deserve the Outstanding Senior award in their major, you can send me that information too and I will distribute it as best I can to the appropriate groups.]
