Dear SPLS Faculty,

Hope everyone is doing well as the semester winds down and prepares for the holiday break.

I am writing to solicit applicants for the position of Associate Director of the newly created (though not formally launched) Agroecosystem Research in the Desert (ARID) Center that was introduced during the departmental retreat. This position does have an annual stipend (renewed annually) and the job duties are described below:

• Developing and contributing to proposals for intramural and extramural funding, as from agencies, boards, foundations, or private donors.
• Assisting in the recruitment of interactions with the Executive Board and as needed, external advisors of the Center.
• Supporting the recruitment of new faculty and other partners to the Center.
• Contributing to the advancement of the scientific and professional standing of the Center, as through extramural and intramural presentations, publications, and outreach.
• Providing leadership with regard to Center initiatives, including development of the website, representation of the Center at the Director’s discretion to other parties, and supporting Center activities with stakeholders, partners, and the University and statewide communities we serve.
• Serving as a liaison between the Center and partners on campus, including but not limited to the Office of Societal Impact, Tech Launch Arizona, graduate training programs, undergraduate courses and clubs, and core and interdisciplinary programs, especially the Ecosystem Genomics GIDP and the School of Plant Science Graduate Programs.
• Acting as liaison or co-liaison with national and international partners for whom the Center will be the catalyst for new collaborations and initiatives.
• Participating actively, via frequent meetings and electronic communications, in all aspects of Center leadership and planning.
• Working to capitalize on the vision and promise of the Center to be a nexus for climate-informed agricultural ecosystems, placing the University of Arizona as a leader in these areas.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please email me a CV and statement describing your research interests related to arid land agroecosystems and why you are an ideal candidate for the position. Materials are due by noon on December 21st, 2023. For more information about ARID, please see the attached center application (sections not pertinent to ARID’s function have been removed).

Thank you for your time and consideration of the matter,
duke
