Please see the timely notice for a grad fellowship opportunity below.

We are allowed 1 nominee / program....so 1 plant science PhD candidate and 1 plant pathology PhD candidate.

The deadline is Sept 12 but there is a fair amount involved in the application.  Please forward your nominees to me by Sept 7 (next Wed) and include 3 bullet points of how the student fulfills the aim of enhancing diversity. In the case of more than 1 nominee/program, the grad committee will decide the candidates to move forward with the application process.

Dear Directors of Graduate Studies and Graduate Program Coordinators,

In honor of Dr. Maria Teresa Velez, former Associate Dean, University of Arizona Graduate College, and her lifelong commitment to promoting graduate student diversity and inclusion, the Graduate College established the Dr. Maria Teresa Velez Diversity Leadership Scholarship<https://grad.arizona.edu/funding/opportunities/dr-maria-teresa-velez-diversity-leadership-scholarship>. This award is given annually to a doctoral student who, through their teaching, research, or outreach and service, has demonstrated a commitment to furthering diversity in education, higher education, and the community at large.

Two scholarships are available for 2023-24 and they include a $25,000 stipend plus full base graduate tuition and individual student health insurance (excluding mandatory registration fees and any differential tuition) for one year only.

Applicants must be nominated by their UArizona academic unit (one nomination per UArizona doctoral program only).  Applicants may not apply directly. The Director of Graduate Studies or the Graduate Coordinator of the nominating program will fill out the application and upload the required documentation.
The nominee must be:
*         Domestic UA doctoral student (U.S. citizen or permanent resident),
*         Admitted to a main campus doctoral program at the University of Arizona (UA Online, JD, MD, DVM, and Pharm-D students are not eligible to apply), and
*         In good academic standing with a current cumulative graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher
