[Plsfaculty] Furlough money question

Hi Monica,

Thanks for the clarification! Redirecting the question to Matt then…It feels like summer salary spending within the school shouldn’t be governed by anyone but PLS? Call it something other than furlough repayment. Can the Dean or above actually limit summer salary bonuses in a justified way if a school wants to spend money that’s in danger of being swept (his words) that way?

Thanks,
Dave

Subject: RE: Furlough money question

Hello PLS Faculty

The original memo from faculty council sent to the Dean regarding the furlough-derived savings that remained in each CALS unit requested the funds somehow benefit the contributing faculty and a few specific suggestions, including discretionary funds and summer salary were provided. We are still awaiting a formal response from this memo.

We are hoping that UA administration is able to resolve all of the furlough-derived issues to the satisfaction of the faculty.

Hope everyone is doing well. Take care

Monica

Hi Dave,

Good suggestion. I feel if the furlough money owed to us in the form of salary was no longer needed to tide over forecasted financial strain, the straightforward follow up should be to pay that money back to the Faculty. and staff who were furoloughed So, your suggestion is in line with that thought.

I want to add that I have not been following various discussions on this because I was upset and got turned off by the callous attitude shown by the UA administration as to how they dealt with our (furloughed) money. Besides returning the withheld money to the rightful people why is any other plan is even being proposed and considered? May be I am wrong on this accusation and I am willing to be corrected.

Ravi

Subject: [Plsfaculty] Furlough money question

Hi all,

Just one clarifying question given the whole furlough thing...why can't PLS give everyone a bonus (summer salary for 9 month contracts?) that matches the amount of furlough dollars "owed"? Why is that disallowed and how is that disallowed?

Surely we all deserve a bonus after the last two years:)
