Good afternoon SPLS Faculty-

                A few business office updates listed below:


1.       SAVE THE DATE-Growth Chamber Training:  a team from Hettich is planning a trip here on August 18-19.  During this time, they will be conducting live training sessions (we are hoping to record) with faculty/users and also FM/maintenance.  Please complete the Doodle Poll below to RSVP for ONE  of the two available user training sessions.  They are expected to be scheduled on Wednesday (08/18) afternoon or Thursday (08/19) morning.  I am hoping to gather a list of individuals to include in each, to ensure we have enough space reserved. If you have lead research staff that you wish to include, please forward the Doodle link to them to complete.

2.       Business Office Scheduling:  beginning Monday 08/16, the business office will expand to normal business hours (open from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm daily, closed from 12-1 for lunch.)  We will be back to full capacity in the office, but please keep in mind some employees are still authorized for periods/days of remote work.



3.       New Student Support Coordinator:  I am happy to announce that we have made an offer to Amanda Armendariz for the position of student support coordinator.  She is scheduled to begin with SPLS on 08/23 and she is very excited to be joining our unit!



4.       Financial Announcements:

a.       Changes to discretionary funding: I have directed the accountants to remove discretionary/hatch funds from the monthly reports starting with July 2021 reports.  We will be discussing some budget changes and how we would like to move forward with discretionary funding requests in an upcoming faculty meeting.

b.       Sponsored Projects 3-day deadline- please see the attached email from UArizona Sponsored Projects Pre-Award team with some updates to the submission deadlines for research proposals. Should you have any questions, please reach out to Fatemah.

c.       Participant Support: I have received several questions about Participant Support and what these funds can/should be used for.  Please see the attached cheat sheet regarding these types of sponsored funds.
