Hi all:

Please check this alert. As I read it, one of the key proposed cuts to the UA library subscription would be our Web-Of-Science access. I think this would be a bad idea.

David

Subject: [faculty] University Libraries’ Information Access Budget spending reduction plan

All,

Due to ongoing, year-over-year inflation in the cost of journals, databases, and other information resources, combined with a flat information access budget, the University Libraries are initiating a plan to reduce spending by approximately $500,000 in fiscal year 2020-21 in order to stay within our allocated Information Access Budget (IAB) of $14.9 million.

Visit our spending reduction page<https://new.library.arizona.edu/about/organization/budget/reduction> to learn why these cuts are necessary, the criteria for decision-making, and our timelines.

On Monday, Libraries Dean Shan Sutton made a presentation to Faculty Senate about this plan. We are now seeking faculty and stakeholder input on a list of resources under consideration for cuts.

We want your feedback. Here’s what you can do:

  * Review the list of suggested resource cancellations.
  * Send us your feedback and questions by April 3rd. See the spending reduction<https://new.library.arizona.edu/about/organization/budget/reduction> page for more information.
  * Attend one of three open sessions.
     * Friday, March 5, from 11 am-1:30 pm in the Main Library's CATalyst Data Studio,
     * Tuesday, March 24, from 11 am-noon in the Health Sciences Library's Large Classroom 2102, or
     * Tuesday, March 24, 2-3:30 pm, also in the Main Library’s CATalyst Data Studio

Final decisions will be made and announced to campus later in April.

If you still have questions, please send them to your library liaison<mailto:http://new.library.arizona.edu/about/contact/your-librarian>, or, if you prefer, you may send them directly to me at brewerm at email.arizona.edu<mailto:brewerm at email.arizona.edu?subject=Spending%20Reduction>. I’ll also be at each of the open sessions listed, above.
