Dear faculty,

We have two candidates for the Theoretical/Quantitative position in the Ecosystem Genomics cluster interviewing next week! Please sign up for individual meetings at the links below.

Mon/Tues: Mario Muscarella
Seminar Mon 3PM in ENR2 S107
"Microbes and Molecules: How Resources and Traits Shape Communities"
Mario's research addresses questions related to the responses of microbial populations, communities, and ecosystems to changes in the resource environment. Specifically, he asks questions related to how the supply and diversity of resources alter the composition and function of communities, and how traits and species interactions link structure and function. To answer these questions, he uses a mixture of field, lab, bioinformatics, and theoretical approaches.

Thurs/Fri: Liana Burghardt
Seminar Thurs 2PM, room TBA
"From genes to communities: The legume-rhizobia nitrogen-fixing symbiosis"
Liana's research seek to 1) explore fundamental biological questions regarding how temporal and spatial environmental variation shapes the expression of genetic variation and determines plant and bacterial fitness and 2) apply this knowledge to answer questions relevant to both natural and agricultural systems. Her work bridges traditional disciplinary lines by integrating predictive models of traits and evolution, classic field and laboratory experimental techniques, and cutting-edge computational, statistical, and genomic tools. https://lianaburghardt.wordpress.com/
