[Plsfaculty] USDA looking for research labs for student tour June 22

I am emailing you all about a great opportunity that the United States Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Plant Protection and Quarantine (USDA-APHIS-PPQ) is sponsoring this summer. The USDA AgDiscovery program is an outreach program for high school students (and occasionally some elementary students) in the age range of 14-17 and provides them an opportunity to learn about careers in plant and animal science, as well as wildlife management. The AgDiscovery program allows students to apply at colleges across the nation that specialize in agriculture, plant pathology, microbiology, animal sciences, agribusiness, entomology, etc., with one of the summer programs coming to the University of Arizona June 15-26. I am emailing you all, because we are hoping for the students to be able to see how a research laboratory functions by possibly showing and giving a tour of any available laboratories on Tuesday, June 22rd from 14:30-15:30. The tour would be for a group of roughly 15-20 people including the AgDiscovery students, AgDiscovery program coordinators, and USDA-APHIS-PPQ coordinators. As of now, we are hoping for at least one laboratory volunteer, but we could split up the one hour timeframe into two 30-minute laboratory tours so the students can see the different types of research that is happening at the University of Arizona.

If you or another laboratory possibly might be interested, please email me back as soon as you can so I can forward along the information to the AgDiscovery coordinators and ad you into our summer schedule! :)
