Hi all,
If you use growth chambers in Forbes building, you may experience sudden increase in temperature on Feb 8th Saturday due to the turning off the chilled water (which is used for cooling growth chambers). Please make sure your temperature limiter (to shut the lights off based on the pre-set extreme temperature) is set at a value within the acceptable range otherwise you may end up by cooking your important plants in the chamber [I have done that long time ago!]. If you do not want to trust your chamber setting, the best practice is turn the lights off during the time we will not have chilled water supply.
Best regards,
Chieri

Subject: FORBES: URGENT Air-handler replacement
Dear Forbes Building Occupants,
Starting next week, Facilities Management will begin the process of replacing the air-handlers in Forbes. Being the building proctor, I will be on the committee for the installation and liaison between Forbes and Facilities management. The installation of the air-handler units is currently scheduled THE LAST WEEK OF FEBRUARY TO THE MIDDLE OF MAY 2014. Here are some very important items you need to be aware of:
1.There are 2 handlers on each floor, located on the north and south hallways. Each handler will take a week to replace, so each floor is scheduled for 2 weeks work. They will be working on one handler at a time. While one handler is being replaced, the air flow to that side of the floor will be shut off, there will be no airflow and no heating or air conditioning for a week. If it gets warm in offices/labs during the process Facilities said they can provide portable cooling units.
*PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP ANY CONCERNS YOU HAVE ABOUT THE AIR BEING SHUT OFF FOR A WEEK ON YOUR SIDE OF THE FLOOR OF FORBES.
2. On Saturday, February 8th, Facilities Management will be turning off the hot and cold water in Forbes for the entire building, including chilled water used to cool walk-in freezers. It should be back on that Saturday afternoon.
*PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP ANY CONCERNS YOU HAVE ABOUT THE HOT AND COLD WATER BEING SHUT OFF THAT DAY.
3.During this weekend (February 1st/2nd) and the following weekend (February 8th/9th) Facilities will need to shut off the air flow in Forbes for the entire building to allow for asbestos abatement.
*PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP ANY CONCERNS YOU HAVE ABOUT THE AIR BEING SHUT OFF IN FORBES THIS WEEKEND AND NEXT.
This is a major project/renovation for the building, but the 50+ year old air-handlers need to be replaced.
Cheers,
Gene
