[Plsfaculty] Survey: Charting a future for Plant Sciences

Dear fellow Plant Sciences faculty,

In our meeting with Dean Burgess last week, our faculty was asked to
provide a list of attributes or characteristics we would like to see in our
next School director. Our resulting discussion led us to recognize some of
the questions that we, as a faculty, may wish to answer so that we can
contribute to charting our future -- first, with regard to our
administrative structure within the School; second, with regard to the sort
of leadership/leader we desire; and third, with regard to our vision both
for our unit presently, and in the years to come.

In our discussion, it was suggested that an anonymous survey might be a
useful tool to gather faculty perspectives on these matters. I am writing
to you now to invite you to complete an anonymous, online survey, which is

I would be very grateful if you might offer your candid perspectives on the
questions raised in the survey. Please note that the survey is by no means
perfect, nor is it a replacement for discussion -- it's just meant to give
us some data for framing our discussions. I will share the results with our
faculty when they are available.

I'd be grateful if you might complete the survey before *5pm on Thursday,
Sept. 27* so that we can evaluate our responses and consider how best to
address the Dean's request in a timely and effective way.
