Center with any further questions, <mailto:GIFTCenter at uafoundation.org>
GIFTCenter at uafoundation.org. If a good fit is determined and you are
interested in submitting a charitable grant request, please also contact
your unit's development office. Note that appropriate routing for some
opportunities may be UA Sponsored Projects Services and/or the VP for

proposals and those with signature requirements require a week. To initiate
review before your submission, send a draft proposal and funder guidelines

Fostering Diversity in Philanthropy
Deadline: April 2, 2012

The D5 Coalition will make awards from $5,000 to $50,000 for research
projects designed to deepen the understanding of the role that
organizational culture and characteristics play in promoting diversity,
equity, and inclusion within philanthropy. Projects may include, but are not

foundation leaders and staff, foundation policies and practices that promote
or hinder inclusion, and outcomes of foundation diversity. Questions of
interest include: How do people attain the positions/roles they have in
philanthropy? What role does the organizational culture of philanthropic
organizations play in promoting or inhibiting diversity, equity, and
inclusion? In what ways have organizational cultures successfully shifted or
changed to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. How can grantmakers
work more effectively with grantees on issues of diversity, equity, and
inclusion? In what ways do diversity, equity, and inclusion at the board or
staff level lead to more effective grantmaking? How do organizational
culture and organizational leadership contribute to or inhibit the
diversification of boards, staffs, and decision-making practices among
foundations?

Fellowships

Center for Social Inclusion - Sabbatical Fellowship for Activists of Color
Deadline: June 15, 2012

The Alston Bannerman Sabbatical Fellowship will award $25,000 to longtime
community activists of color to take a sabbatical of three months or more
for reflection and renewal. The Center for Social Inclusion recognizes that
working for social change usually means long hours at low pay with few
tangible rewards and few escapes from the day-to-day pressures. Without time
to rest and reenergize, the pressures can prove overwhelming and result in a
loss of creative and critical leadership. To qualify for an Alston Bannerman
Sabbatical Fellowship, you must: be a person of color, have more than 10
years of community organizing experience, be committed to social change work
in communities of color, and live in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam,
American Samoa or U.S. Virgin Islands. Beyond the basic eligibility
criteria, the Alston Bannerman Program seeks applicants whose work: attacks
root causes of inequity by organizing those affected to take collective
strategic action; challenges the systems that perpetrate injustice and
effects institutional and structural change; builds community capacity for
democratic participation and develops grassroots leadership; acknowledges
the cultural values of the community; creates accountable participatory
structures in which community members have decision-making power; and
contributes to building a movement for social change by making connections
between issues, developing alliances with other constituencies, and
collaborating with other organizations.
