On Behalf of Drs. Arnold and Schumaker:
Dear ABBS program participating faculty,
The 26 PhD students from the fall 2012 enrollment class will arrive on
campus on August 6. To help them pick research rotations, we ask you to
provide your availability by completing the following survey by July 15:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TJVKLQD - Don't forget to click the "done"
button at the bottom of the survey to submit your selections.
The starting dates for the three required rotations are August 20, October
22, and January 7. The thesis lab start date is March 11.
Before filling out the survey, please read the statement below:
ABBS is funded by a combination of commitments from the Graduate School and
the participating departments (Biochemistry and Molecular and Cellular
Biology program, the Cellular and Molecular Medicine and Immunobiology
departments, the School of Plant Sciences, and the Cancer Biology and
Genetics GIDPs). In order to fairly distribute the costs of ABBS,
departments contribute based on the number of ABBS students enrolled in the
programs. Faculty need to understand that departments, programs and GIDPs
incur an obligation for the support of future graduate students based on the
number of ABBS students that enroll in that program. In order to be sure the
programs and departments are informed of that possibility, faculty need to
have their Program Director/Department Chair/etc sign a form acknowledging
those commitments should the students choose that lab and program. There is
no funding impact for a rotation.
Faculty are expected to assume funding responsibility for students effective
March 11 of 2013. Should a funding lapse occur, it is the responsibility of
the faculty member to work to secure funding for the student. ABBS has no
funds to support students after they enter a graduate program.
