Confluence: Center for Creative Inquiry invites proposals for innovative
scholarly and creative projects that cross disciplinary boundaries and
intellectual orientations and that bring together researchers and artists
from diverse areas at the University of Arizona. Awards will be under

National Film Preservation Foundation- Basic Preservation Grants

Deadline: February 10, 2012 

The National Film Preservation Foundation is accepting applications for the
spring round of its Basic Preservation Grants. These grants are awarded to
nonprofit and public institutions for laboratory work to preserve culturally
and historically significant film materials. The grant must be used to pay
for new laboratory work involving the creation of new film preservation
elements (which may include sound tracks) and two new public access copies,
one of which must be a film print. Awards generally range from $1,000 to
$15,000 in cash and/or laboratory services.

Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley- Practice of Gratitude

Deadline: February 15, 2012 (Letter of Intent)

The Greater Good Science Center at the University of California, Berkeley,
in collaboration with the University of California, Davis, has announced a
new, three-year project designed to expand the scientific understanding of
gratitude. Supported with $5.9 million in funding from the John Templeton
Foundation, the Expanding the Science and Practice of Gratitude project will
promote research-based practices in institutions such as schools and
hospitals, and engage the public in a wide-reaching cultural conversation
about the role of gratitude in civil society. The first component of the
project is a $3 million research initiative to expand the scientific
understanding of gratitude. The initiative is particularly interested in
four key areas of gratitude research: gratitude and health, the development
of gratitude, gratitude in social contexts, and the practice of gratitude.
The center is accepting Letters of Intent for the research program. The
letter should describe the proposed project in detail and indicate clearly
why the proposed study promises significant contributions to either the
science or practice of gratitude.

Dr. Scholl Foundation

Deadline: March 1, 2012

The Dr. Scholl Foundation provides educational grants to nonprofit
organizations. On average past grants ranged from $5,000 to $25,000.
Applications for grants are considered in the following areas: Education,
Social Service, Healthcare, Civic and Cultural, and Environmental. Grant
applications must be requested from the foundation via a mailed request.
Over the past decade, approximately 35% of their grants have been related to
education, 15% to social services, 27% to hospitals and healthcare, and 19%
to civic and cultural with the remaining percentage spread out in the above
categories.  During the same period, 68% of their grants have been made in
Illinois.

Terra Foundation for American Art- Funding for Exhibitions

Deadline: March 1, 2012 (Letter of intent)

In recognition of the importance of experiencing original works of art, the
Terra Foundation for American Art supports exhibitions that enlarge the
understanding and appreciation of historical American art made between 1500
and 1980. Exhibitions that take place only in the United States but outside
of Chicago must present historical American art in an international context
and reach a scholarly audience. Typical past grants ranged from $10,000 to

EcoStar Grants

Deadline: March 10, 2012

Constellation Energy, a national energy company, is accepting applications
for its annual EcoStar Grant program, which provides qualifying nonprofit
organizations with funds to implement projects that support the company's
commitment to environmental stewardship. The EcoStar program targets
community-based projects that fit into one or more of five stewardship
categories - pollution prevention, education and outreach, energy
efficiency, conservation, and community activism. Grant awards will be up to
$5,000, with funds provided through the Constellation Energy Foundation.

AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation- Connections for Cardiovascular Health
Program

Deadline: March 15, 2012

Foundation is accepting applications for the 2012 Connections for
Cardiovascular Health program.  The program seeks to improve cardiovascular
health within the United States and its territories. In 2011, the program
awarded more than $3.6 million in grants to over twenty organizations
working to improve cardiovascular health in their communities. Grants of
$150,000 and up will be provided annually to innovative initiatives that are
focused on clearly defined and measurable results and processes. The
recipient organization must be able to demonstrate ongoing activity to
improve cardiovascular health and the ability to sustain the initiative
after the grant funds are spent.

Council on Library and Information Resources: Grants Enhance Collections and
Archives 

Deadline: March 16, 2012  

The purpose of Cataloging Hidden Special Collections and Archives, an
initiative of the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR), is to
overcome the pervasive lack of knowledge about special collections and
archives and to make information about these materials accessible to
scholars and students. Through this initiative, grants are provided to
institutions holding collections of high scholarly value that are difficult
or impossible to locate through finding aids. Award recipients will create
descriptive information for their hidden collections that will be linked to
all other projects funded by this grant in order to form a federated
environment that can be built upon over time. Grants are expected to be made
between $75,000 to $500,000.

The Carthage Foundation- General Request for Proposal
Deadline: None

The Carthage Foundation's grant program is primarily directed toward public
policy programs that address major domestic and international issues. There
are no geographical restrictions. The Foundation does not make grants to
individuals for any purpose or to nationally-organized fundraising groups.
Proposal for the following are usually declined: event sponsorships,
endowments, capital campaigns, renovations, or government agencies. The
Foundation normally considers grants at quarterly meetings. However,

Social Science Research Council Fellowship

Deadline: February 13, 2011

The Social Science Research Council has announced a pilot postdoctoral
fellowship program that will support transregional research under the rubric
Inter-Asian Contexts and Connections. Funded by the Andrew W. Mellon
Foundation, the new program is designed to strengthen the understanding of
issues and geographies that do not fit neatly into existing divisions of
academia or the world and to develop new approaches, practices, and
opportunities in international, regional, and area studies in the United
States. The fellowships will help junior scholars (those at the postdoctoral
stage, one to seven years out of the Ph.D.) complete first books and/or
undertake second projects. In addition to funding research, the program will
create networks and shared resources to support fellows well beyond the
grant period.

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) provides talented postdoctoral

Damon Runyon-Sohn Pediatric Cancer Fellowship Award


Deadline: March 15, 2012


The Sohn Conference Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to curing
pediatric cancers, has granted $1.5 million to the Damon Runyon Cancer
Research Foundation, the leading charity supporting innovative young cancer
researchers, to establish the Damon Runyon-Sohn Pediatric Cancer Fellowship
Award. Created to help address the critical shortage of funding for
pediatric cancer research, the new award will provide funding to basic
scientists and clinicians for research with the potential to significantly
impact the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of one or more pediatric
cancers.

National Water Research Institute- Graduate Fellowships  

Deadline: April 25, 2012

The National Water Research Institute (NWRI) is now accepting applications
for graduate fellowship funding for the 2012/2013 academic year. Areas of
interest include water and waste water, membrane technologies, removing and
reducing salts from water supplies, and preserving water resources.
Applicants must be graduate students (Master's or Ph.D. level) who are (1)
conducting research in the areas of water resources, treatment, and/or
policy and (2) are currently enrolled at a university in the United States.

American Society for Microbiological Research- Robert D. Watkins Graduate
Research Fellowship 

Deadline: May 1, 2012

The goal of the fellowship is to increase the number of underrepresented
groups completing doctoral degrees in the microbiological sciences. The ASM
Robert D. Watkins Graduate Research Fellowship is aimed at highly
competitive graduate students who are enrolled in a Ph.D. program and who
have completed their graduate course work in the microbiological sciences.
The fellowship encourages students to continue and complete their research
project in the microbiological sciences. The program provides a total
stipend of $63,000 ($21,000 a year) for a three year period (September
2012-June 2015). Eligibility: Eligible candidates must be from groups that
have been determined by the applicant's institution to be underrepresented
in the microbiological sciences, have completed the first year of graduate
school, and be a student member of ASM.
