Dean Sander asked that this be forwarded to CALS employees:

 

CALS Unit Heads, please distribute this to your employees.

Provost Hay recently distributed state funds to deans and vice presidents
for program investment.  She stated, "It is our intent to provide you with
the financial means to insure that we retain our top personnel and that we
appropriately recognize the contributions individuals are making to the
university in times of financial stress and change."

Here's a brief summary of CALS' status regarding this exercise:

.        A distribution plan has been submitted to the provost by Dean
Sander.  This plan was vetted by representatives of the various employee
groups.  The provost must approve the plan before any monies can be
distributed.

.        Program Investment salary adjustments will not be effective before
July 1, 2011.

.        Unit heads will submit recommendations for individual adjustments
to Executive Council around May 1, 2011.  Executive Council will review
recommendations and make their decisions by mid-May 2011.

.        This is NOT an across-the-board adjustment exercise.
Recommendations and decisions will be based on merit, market, and equity.
Eligible employees must have an exceeds expectations rating or better on
their most recent performance evaluation.  Student workers are not eligible
for Program Investment increases.

.        Individuals funded through non-state funding sources can be
considered for increases during this exercise.  Those increases would be
covered by departmental or non-state funds. 

.        More detailed CALS instructions, guidelines, and procedures are in
development and will be distributed to units when finalized. 

.        The CALS plan is subject to change based on further university
directives.
