If a good fit is determined and you are interested in submitting a charitable grant request, please also contact your unit’s development office. Note that appropriate routing for some opportunities may be UA Sponsored Projects Services and/or the VP for Research and Graduate Studies. If routing is most appropriate through the GIFT Center please remember that the GIFT Center requires three days prior to the mailing deadline to review a charitable grant proposal; electronic proposals and those with signature requirements require a week. To initiate review before your submission, send a draft proposal and funder guidelines to your GIFT Center contact (if applicable) and to GIFTCenter at al.arizona.edu.

ABCD Pilot Project Grants in Complex Diseases

Deadline: November 1, 2011

The Arizona Center for the Biology of Complex Diseases (ABCD) invites applications for 1-year Pilot Project Grants in line with its mission of fostering trans-disciplinary research on complex diseases at the University of Arizona. Examples of human complex diseases include asthma, cancer, cardiovascular and metabolic disorders, neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases.  ABCD will provide up to $30,000 for projects aimed at performing cutting-edge, trans-disciplinary research on complex disease-related themes.

St. Baldrick’s Foundation – Infrastructure Grants

St. Baldrick’s Foundation raises funds for childhood cancer research.  Infrastructure grants are intended to fund resources an institution needs in order to be able to do more research, such as supporting Clinical Research Associates or similar staff.

Northrop Grumman Foundation - STEM Education

Deadline: September 30, 2011

Northrop Grumman Foundation focuses a substantial portion of its contributions on programs which address education, services for veterans and the military, health and human services, as well as the environment. Their main focus is science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. They partner with local organizations that provide unique programming to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and technicians. Aid to Higher Education grants enhance STEM programs and contribute to activities that support our relationships with college and university partners. These grants provide funding for scholarships, student organizations and STEM programs and projects. Grants range from $10,000 to $250,000, though most are closer to the low end.

Elizabeth Read Taylor Foundation

The Elizabeth Read Taylor Foundation provides grants to arts and culture, museums, performing arts, botanical gardens, secondary education, Christian schools, programs for children and youth, youth development programs, and programs for people with disabilities. Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research - Clinical Intervention Awards

Chinese Studies

The Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange, headquartered in Taipei, offers research grants, doctoral fellowships, and grants for faculty and postdoctoral scholars in Chinese Studies or for field study in Taiwan.  Fellowships awards are up to $15,000, and scholar grants up to $40,000.

Venture for America Fellowship
Deadline: November 1, 2011

Beginning in fall 2012, VFA fellows will take jobs at startup companies in economically-challenged U.S. cities. VFA will match the fellows with startup companies in "industries of great potential or future importance" (e.g., energy, biotech, and materials sciences) from targeted cities including Detroit, Providence and New Orleans. The startup will hire fellows at a discounted salary of up to $38,000 per year.
