Hello!
My name is Sarah Masterson, and I am a recent graduate of the University of
Alabama New College Undergraduate program, where one may design his/her own
interdisciplinary major. Specifically, I synthesized biology, chemistry,
ecology, philosophy (specifically ethics), sustainable agriculture, and even
a bit of art history to develop a Bachelor's of Science degree titled "Human
Interactions in the Environment." For my Senior Project through the New
College program, I developed a basic 'home' vegetable grafting system as
well as a cost-benefit analysis of grafting in third-world countries. The
project was supremely enjoyable and ignited my interest in sustainable plant
pathology/genetics research. Currently, I work at an environmental
education center in northwest Alabama, but I plan to attend graduate school
next fall. Does your college offer any current funded projects related to
the aforementioned topics? I am interested in any information your
department offers in this area. Hope this finds you well!
Many Thanks,
Sarah Masterson
