Hello All,
To those faculty who will or planning to receive NSF grants after January 4,
2010 - there is a new compliance policy if you will fund undergraduate
students, graduate students or Post Doctoral Researchers with funds from
these grants.
The Undergraduate Student employees, Graduate Student Employees and Post
Doctoral Research Employees but take must complete an online training
program and participate in one additional workshop, course, or lecture for
Responsible Conduct of Research.
Please see the email below.
When a new NSF grant is awarded, I will send a reminder to the faculty about
this compliance regulation. When a student (undergraduate or graduate) or a
Post Doctoral Researcher is employed - Joy or Laura will send this notice to
the faculty and employee.
As of January 25, 2010 NIH will adopt a similar compliance policy.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Cheers
Donna-Rae

Subject: New National Science Foundation grant policy: Requirement
for
Instruction in the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
On January 4, 2010, the National Science Foundation instituted a new policy
requiring all students and postdoctoral researchers supported by new NSF
grants to complete training in the Responsible Conduct of Research. To meet
these requirements, all students (graduate and undergraduate) and
postdoctoral researchers, supported by an NSF grant awarded after January 4,
2010, must complete an online training program and participate in one
additional workshop, course, or lecture. The online training course is
available through CITI and is offered at no cost to research staff, faculty
and students associated with the University of Arizona.
Please direct your faculty, staff, and students to the Office for the
Responsible Conduct of Research website (www.vpr.arizona.edu/compliance) for
instructions on accessing the CITI training and opportunities for additional
training. We will continue to develop our tools and programs to assist
programs and departments in meeting these new requirements.
Please note: The National Institutes of Health (NIH) have also announced
new training requirements to go into effect January 25, 2010. A separate
announcement will follow once these requirements are finalized.
For questions related to RCR training, please contact Tina Tarin, Training
Coordinator, at (520) 626-5851 or tina.tarin at arizona.edu.
