This is intended just for the faulty who use autoclaves in Marley.
We are looking at the long term expenses of autoclaves in Marley and we have
a proposal that we would like you to consider. First, yearly service
agreements cost about $4,000 per year per machine. Over the life of the
machine we approximate that Steris charges another $5,000/machine/year for
parts. Whether these new parts are needed or not , we cannot know. Anyway,
we can get new autoclaves installed for $35 each. While we have warranty on
them for two years (@$9,000 per machine), this only covers parts and not
labor. After 2 yrs it is going to cost ~$9,000 per machine/yr.
Solution: We would like to install two electric autoclaves on 3rd and 5th
floors and one on the 4th floor. The 8th floor already has one. We will
remove the old autoclaves from the 3rd and 5th floors. While an
unauthorized employee recently (2 years ago) had one of the 3rd floor
autoclaves repaired for $27,000, I am not inclined to throw more money at it
so I would also have it removed. We need to make decisions about the 4th and
8th floor autoclaves. The 4th floor autoclaves are just two years old while
the 8th floor unit is 15 years old. We will likely repair these units and
put water systems on the 4th floor units but I don't think we will pick up
service contracts on them. We will get them repaired as needed as long as
the costs are reasonable.
For bags of trash, we will provide metal cans with lids that will be picked
up on a regular schedule. All you need to do, is put your trash in these
cans and they will be taken to the 6th street garage and autoclaved.
So, we are asking you to use the electric autoclaves for the bulk of your
autoclave needs and to have items that are being disposed placed into a
metal trash can which will be removed, autoclaved and disposed of for you.
Your thoughts? ken
