Hello All,

Below is a message from the UA Sponsored Projects Office regarding how many
grant proposals that are submitted through Grants.gov for the entire nation.
This is not just UA numbers, the chart does demonstrate the problems with
submitting via Grants.gov - the competition for server time while submitting
grants is daunting.

Many of you have asked why we have to submit the grants via Grants.gov.
Five years ago the Federal government chose Grants.gov to be the sole
federal grant application system with a 6 year phase in.   Some agencies
such a NIH, HHS, and USDA chose to adopt this application process
immediately.

But, the Federal government is investigating the use of Grants.gov and the
possible upgrading of the system in order to handle the massive amount of
applications in a more efficient manner.

Related to yesterday's Ramtalk message/3D memo, here is more information on
the number of applications received by grants.gov over the years.  Each year
listed is the Federal FY (October to Sept).  The total for 2009 represents
the number of applications from October 1, 2008 to March 16, 2009.  That
number is well over half the number of applications for the whole of FFY
2008, and the amounts for the HHS, in particular, are staggering.

Ramtalk message)
