Dear Sherry ,

I am pleased to share with you a Report Card tracking the performance of
Science Foundation Arizona and the state's technology sector.  The Report
Card was prepared by Battelle, one of the nation's leading independent
research and development organizations and points to the tangible results
from SFAz's investments in less than two years of strategic grant making to
research performing institutions.

The Report Card highlights that our efforts have begun having a measurable
impact.  Yet, much work lies ahead in continuing to lay the foundation for a
sustained, high-growth recovery that enables Arizona to "leap frog" and
become one of the world's leading job and wealth generating economies over
the next decade.

We gratefully acknowledge Mr. Jerry Bisgrove and the Stardust Foundation for
both the leadership and funding in making this progress report possible.

The Report Card also indicates that we are lagging as a technology state and
finds warning signs of Arizona being at risk if immediate action is not
taken to increase the state's competitiveness in science and technology.

electronics, biomedicine, sustainable and renewable energies, and aerospace
where our core competencies present opportunity.
