On Behalf of Dr. Betsy Arnold:

Hi everyone,

Two interviewees for our department's Ph.D. program in Plant Sciences will
be visiting campus Feb. 26-27 (Thursday and Friday of next week). The
Graduate Recruitment Committee would like to ask that any faculty interested
in meeting and evaluating these applicants please consider doing so.

Our interviewees:

Tom Kleist is a botany major at UW-Madison, where he has worked with Donna
Fernandez (genetic control of development in Arabidopsis), Donald Waller
(plant community ecology/plant identification), and Ken Sytsma (plant
molecular systematics and evolution). Tom has expressed a strong interest in
graduate research in plant genetics.

Miranda Gray is a biology major at Chatham University, where she is studying
microtubule orientation in Ceratopteris gametophytes for her honors thesis
with Kelly Weixel. She has participated in an NSF-funded REU here at the UA
(eyespot positioning in Chlamydomonas, with Carol Dieckmann). She is very
interested in cell signalling mechanisms in plants, and also has an interest
in fungi (plant-fungal interactions).

To review Tom and Miranda's application packets:

To arrange a meeting with Tom and/or Miranda:

Meeting times are available with Tom on the afternoon of Thursday, Feb. 26
(between 2:30pm and 4:30pm) and with each applicant during the day on
Friday. We are also looking for someone who might be able to pick up Tom
from the airport on Thursday around 11:30am, and who might also be able to
take him to lunch that day.

If you are interested in meeting with Tom and/or Miranda, and/or might be
willing to pick up Tom from the airport, please contact Rachael Mattull
(rmattull at ag.arizona.edu) and cc me (arnold at ag.arizona.edu).

Thank you!

All the best,

Betsy Arnold,

on behalf of the Grad Recruitment Committee (Ursula Schuch, Shelley McMahon)
