Please join me in welcoming <b>Dr. Sarah Hind</b> to our faculty as an Assistant Professor of Practice. We are delighted to have Dr. Hind joining us in the School of Plant Sciences. She brings considerable expertise in biotechnology, plant sciences, and microbial
sciences, as well as excellence as an instructor, in course design, and in curriculum development.</div>

Sarah earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and a Bachelor of Arts in Russian from the University of South Carolina. She remained at the university to pursue a Ph.D. in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology under the mentorship of Dr. Johannes
Stratmann. Her doctoral research focused on molecular plant-insect interactions in tomato. Following her Ph.D., Sarah moved to central New York to join the Boyce Thompson Institute at Cornell University as a postdoctoral research associate in the lab of Dr.
Gregory Martin. There, her research shifted to molecular plant-microbe interactions in tomato. From 2017 to 2025, Sarah served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Crop Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. During her tenure, she
taught several courses, including <i>Plant Development</i>, <i>The Intelligent Behavior of Plants</i>, and the bacteriology section of
<i>Advanced Plant Pathology</i>. She also led a research group investigating various aspects of the plant immune system in solanaceous crops and bacterial pathogenesis in cucurbit crops. Additionally, she contributed to multiple departmental and university
committees focused on undergraduate education, and has also been an active member of the CROPPS team.</div>
