Dear All,

I am writing on behalf of the Seminar Committee to provide an update on the SPLS 2021 Spring seminar series. The online seminar series in the last semester was a quite success with an average of 40 participants attended each seminar, despite
the challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Your continued support and participation will make the Seminar Series another success in this semester.

Seminars will be offered again on Zoom throughout this semester, due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation. All the seminars will meet at
https://arizona.zoom.us/j/99520327983. Most of the seminars will start at 4:00 pm on Tuesdays, however a few will have different starting time. Please watch for specific seminar announcements from Georgina
on Fridays and Mondays before a seminar.

A 30-minute happy hour will immediately follow the regular 1-hour seminar to provide an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to continue the discussions or to mingle and social. Graduate students will still be offered a one-hour
“lunch” Zoom meeting with external seminar speakers. However other meetings with seminar speakers will be kept at a minimum and only arranged if requested by faculty members or by seminar speakers. This is to reduce online fatigues for the speakers and everyone
else involved.

There are still two open seminar dates, 4/6 and 4/20. Please reach out to your colleagues, especially international colleagues, to see if they are willing to speak to SPLS over zoom. This is a great opportunity to bring high caliber international
scientists to speaker in the SPLS seminar series. Because of time zone differences, international speakers could be scheduled on a time and a date different than 4 pm on Tuesdays.

Please let the committee know if you have any comments or suggestions for the 2021 Spring SPLS seminar series.
