• DR. CHELSEA SPECHT: March 22-23
SEMINAR: Today, Tuesday, March 22, 2:00-3:00pm, Koffler 216
“Petaloidy, Polarity and Pollination: the evolution and diversification of floral form and function”

Dr. Specht received her Ph.D. in 2004 from NYU, working at the NY Botanical Garden, and is an Associate Professor at UC Berkeley where she has been a faculty member and curator since 2005. She studies plant systematics (particularly of monocots) and the evolutionary-developmental
biology of flowers. Faculty host: Shelley McMahon, SPLS.
March 25: Teaching/Mentoring Ideas, 11:00-12:00pm @ Forbes 412 Informal Group Meeting, Faculty & Students Invited

Dr. Matzkin received his Ph.D. in 2003 from the State University of New York in Stony Brook, and is currently Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He studies mechanisms of adaptation and speciation using transcriptomics and computational
biology, focusing on cactophilic Drosophila. Faculty host: Xianchun Li, ENTO.
