<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">Adobe is changing the way they do licenses for their software.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">on the email they sent to a lot of users they mention that it will only apply to the CS suites, now they are telling me that it applies to any Adobe product. If you need any new version of any of their programs
after February 27<sup>th</sup> you will need to do a monthly or yearly subscription.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">They are recommending that if you have and old version of any adobe product and you don’t want to pay for a subscription to get it before the deadline.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Adobe Software has decided to cease selling perpetual licenses for their Creative Suite (CS) products. Starting February 27<sup>th</sup>, the only way to purchase new versions of Photoshop and Illustrator will be to pay for a monthly subscription
to Adobe’s Creative Cloud. Creative Cloud subscriptions are $34.99 per MONTH per machine per named user. For device based licenses (the current way most labs work) the cost is $299.99 per year per machine. These prices are current educational prices from Adobe’s
Website. The UA may negotiate better pricing in the future, but these are our current prices as well.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">What this means in more concrete terms is that after February 27<sup>th</sup>, any upgrade to your operating system (e.g. Windows or OS X), or the purchase of a new computer that does not allow your current version of Photoshop or Illustrator
to run properly will require you to either downgrade your OS install or start paying for the Creative Cloud subscription license.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">There are several advantages to Adobe’s model in that you will always get the most recent version of Adobe’s products as well as online storage for your projects. Lastly, you will also have access to all of Adobe’s products as a creative
cloud user (not just Photoshop and Illustrator, but all of their web design, audio, and video production software).
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The obvious disadvantage is the substantial increase in cost and the fact that ceasing to pay the fee means that your software will no longer work.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Currently, the University of Arizona Bookstore has CS 6 licenses available for $295 per computer. This is the last perpetual license that Adobe offers and I strongly encourage all users who are not interested in using alternatives to Adobe’s
products to upgrade before the 27<sup>th</sup>.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Adobe Acrobat licensing is not affected by this change (at this time), so you may continue to purchase Acrobat using the old perpetual license model.<o:p></o:p></p>
