Two months of summer salary will be provided for the first three contract years. SDSU actively seeks to increase social and intellectual diversity among its faculty. Women and persons underrepresented in higher education are especially encouraged to apply. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>RESPONSIBILITIES: </b>Develop a dynamic Extension program and a complementary research program in weed management in agronomic and horticulture crops and range/pasture areas in South Dakota. Provide leadership for the transfer of information and technologies to agricultural producers, crop consultants, and allied industry. Provide technical support for weed management topics to horticulture extension programs. This faculty member will work cooperatively with other Extension Specialists, Field Specialists, and IPM and pesticide education coordinators to develop effective, interdisciplinary training and clientele programs. The incumbent will be expected to utilize a variety of delivery techniques including the iGrow web portal, distance educational technologies, traditional meetings, individual consultations, and intensive short courses. This individual’s research program should be coordinated with SDSU Research Weed Scientists and focus on priority issues in integrated weed management, weed resistance, plant competition, and/or weed control techniques in major field crops that will be successfully supported through external funding (federal/regional/state/crop commodity groups). Successful grantsmanship and participation in multidisciplinary and multi-state activities is expected. The successful applicant will recruit and train quality graduate students. Service to university, state, regional, and national committees as appropriate.<b><o:p></o:p></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><o:p> </o:p></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>QUALIFICATIONS: </b>Ph.D. in Agronomy or closely related field, successfully completed by the appointment date, with an emphasis in weed management. Field experience in integrated weed management, herbicide evaluation studies, and plant identification is also required. The successful candidate must be able to interact effectively with agricultural producers, allied industry professionals, colleagues, staff, students, and other clientele with extension experience programming preferred. The incumbent must be able to communicate (both verbally and in writing) effectively and have demonstrated research abilities. Demonstrated abilities to work both as a team leader and a team member are imperative. The individual must have the ability and willingness to travel throughout the state.
