Dear SPLS community,

In collaboration with Facilities Management, we're working to ensure that (1) key concerns in Marley are addressed via repair and maintenance, and (2) we have a clear line of communication with our staff, students, and faculty to protect our endeavors and personnel when work on Marley must be done. Please see below for two scheduled events.

  1.
24-hour shutdown of DI water in Marley: October 1 at 6am through October 2 at 6am. As emphasized by Christopher, Hettich growth chambers will require (1) shutdown or (2) an open gallon-sized container of water to maintain humidity. Without one of these steps, the humidifier in the chambers will burn out. Hettich users, please be especially aware and take steps to ensure your work and your growth chambers are safe. All Marley users, including those using teaching spaces, should please take note and review systems in your lab/workspace before the shutdown.

  1.
8-hour shutdown of air handlers in Marley: October 17, 6am-2pm. Please note, fume hoods cannot be used during this period. All chemicals in fume hoods must please be capped or removed prior to the shutdown.

To those working in Marley, thank you for placing these on your calendars, and for taking care of your teams and your work during this time.

Please feel free to reach out with questions.

Warm regards,
Betsy
