Hello Everyone!

I'm going to make this short and sweet so that I can get back to the monumental project at hand! Account reconciliations.

I underestimated the work and analysis of that needed to be done to the accounts and fell short of my promise to have all account reports in your email inboxes by Monday the 11th. I give myself an E for effort as I spent the entire weekend driven to meet that goal, but in the end, I had to admit defeat around midnight Sunday evening. I was able to send out most of the reports and Gaby and I began meeting with people on Monday. These meetings have been an enormous help in making necessary changes to accounts as well as helping Gaby and I understand the big picture of the work and commitments of the account PIs. We can't do our jobs efficiently or correctly if we don't know the details. I want to express our appreciation in everyone taking the time out of busy schedules to meet.

  1. Account reports will be sent out each month and if there is ever a need to set up a meeting for account review, please send an email to the SPLS-BIZOFFICE email and a meeting will be set up as soon as possible. I would like to allocate at least one 3-week period on my calendar each year for in depth account review meetings with each PI. It would be best finance wise to do this in April so that all the changes can be completed and approve by fiscal year end.

  1. Emails sent out on the listserv. If you are sending out an email on the plantsci at list.cals.arizona<mailto:plantsci at list.cals.arizona> list serve, or any other list serv, you will need to do it during business hours so that the list serv moderators can approve the email. If you create an email after 5pm on Friday, it's not going to get approve or go out until Monday.

  1. Dr. Galbraith and I attended an Urgent Business Retreat yesterday with Dean Burgess, Jeff Ratje, Janice Rutherford, the unit heads. This meeting was about the new method of how budgets and fund distributions are calculated by central administration that are dispersed out to the different schools and colleges within the UA. More information on this will be forthcoming once Dr. Galbraith and I have a chance to meet and go over all the details.

  1. If there is anything that you think I need to discuss or clarify in these weekly emails that would be helpful to faculty and staff, please let me know.

  1. I'm still pushing to meet the critical goals, this is still a daily priority. This list of goals will always remain a priority, but I am hoping that we can downgrade from code red to at least a code orange in the very near future.

So much for short and sweet!

Hoping everyone has an amazing rest of your week,
