Dear Colleagues,

The University is the target of cybercrime phishing attacks every day. Please be aware of a new and very sophisticated email scam that aims to steal your NetID and password to access your personal information.

About the Recent Scam

The scam originated from a student email address. The subject line was “New Secure Message Received” and the email directed recipients to a webpage mimicking the WebAuth login page and the two-factor authentication process. With NetID and password credentials, a scammer can log in to UAccess and steal personal data, or even change direct deposit information. Those who were impacted by this recent scam have already been contacted by the University.

Important Tips

  * Do not reply to, or click on links contained in, suspicious emails, regardless of whether they have the EXT banner in the subject line. If you were not expecting an email, confirm with the sender prior to opening.
  * Never click on or respond to any email that asks for credentials or personal information. The University will never ask for login, password or other personal information via email.
  * Do not approve two-factor authentication requests that you did not initiate.
  * If you accidentally click a link in a scam email and enter your password on a fake website, change your NetID password immediately and contact the 24/7 Support Center<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=50e9dc33b3c3af545b7aa759bcb68cecf2f89bbde76a5c08c25880b3ed05b6daca8d2ab009ff78d5abb3927709f9d4cfc8497748e5e44ab8983abe28d76abf54>.

New [CATMAIL] Tag

The University continues to evolve its information security practices to protect our community against future attacks. A new change is being implemented immediately: the addition of a new tag – [CATMAIL] – in the subject line of all emails from students, alumni and retirees.

If you have questions about this recent email scam, contact the 24/7 Support Center<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=50e9dc33b3c3af5491858974c6fa7f444081583c93f6420ad6daedfebcd0b62a8eb79faf5c0f1b60f59c12fb231f549be00a8b4036a4351f80c278969661218d> at 520-626-TECH (8324).
