BIO: Dr.SelsoVillegas (TohonoO' odham) serves as the Director of Water Resources for the Tohono O' odham Nation. His leadership and passion have been instrumental in developing a climate change adaptation plan fortheNation, which was approved by the Legislative Council in 2018. Dr. Villegas grew up on the Tohono O' odham Nation with his grandparents and would later attend the University of Arizona where he received a Bachelor ' s and a Master ' s degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Science and a Ph.D. in Science with emphasis on Environmental Toxicology. After working with the US Fish and Wildlife Service as an Ecologist, he returned to the O' odham Nation to become the Ecologist/GIS Manager, then the Director of the Natural Resources Department before assuming his current directorship.


Undergrads and Grads:

There will be a "standing engagement" with each SNRE speaker this semester. The speakers will plan to stay an extra 45 minutes to talk with students one-on one (this replaces the pizza lunch we used to have for grad students and the speakers). For Spring 2021, every speaker is Native American (except Ben Colombi - but Ben is the Chair of the Native American Studies Department at the UA). All of these speakers will have personal stories worth hearing about so the seminar organizer strongly encourages students to take the time to stay after the seminar, and ask questions about their career path, ask about their personal experiences in science - or anything else.
