Department News
Wikipedia "Edit-a-thon" by the Masel Lab
The Masel Lab is organizing their second annual Wikipedia "Edit-a-thon" targeting ecology and evolution over a two week period. The Edit-a-thon kicks off at 3 PM on Friday, September 9th in Bio Sci West room 302 with an orientation session, where they will give a basic introduction to editing Wikipedia articles. They will register everyone participating, and after two weeks, prizes ($150 in total) will be awarded for "Most Improved Page", "Best New Page", and in the unlikely event that it is needed, "Staying Cool Under Fire". Last year's winners were Nick Kortessis, Simon Stump, and Aaron Ragsdale.

We are telling you about this now because you will get a lot more from the orientation if you do some browsing ahead of time. Please check out Wikipedia pages in areas that you know something about, and identify some bad/missing pages that you want to edit/write. There are unfortunately plenty of pages which are important, frequently accessed, and currently terrible, so there will be plenty to choose from! Everyone should have something to offer based on their own expertise, and everyone is welcome! If you are interested, please let Jason Bertram<mailto:jbertram at email.arizona.edu> know if you would like to register, can't make the orientation time, or have any further questions.
