Spring Fling 2014 Impact

Spring Fling will be returning to the UA Mall April 11-13 after operating off campus for the past 15 years. Spring Fling is the largest student-run carnival in the nation and crucially fundraises for over 40 campus clubs and organizations each year.

We would like to alert you to trafficking restrictions and general campus changes that will occur starting Monday, April 7th in order for Spring Fling to begin configuring the event area.

Beginning Monday, April 7th at 8 am until Wednesday, April 16th at 8 am, University Blvd (on the UA Mall) will be closed between Cherry Ave and Campbell Ave. Temporary fencing will be erected on this portion of the mall for the entirety of the closure.

Spring Fling Operational Hours

  *   Friday, April 11th: 4 pm - 11 pm
  *   Saturday, April 12th: 11 am - 11 pm
  *   Sunday, April 13th: 11 am - 6 pm

University Boulevard Closure

Transportation affected by this closure includes all of the following:

  *   Motorists - There will be no east or westbound traffic on University between Cherry and Campbell.
  *   Sun Tran Passengers:  The Optical Science bus stop on University will be relocated to Campbell Ave
  *   Cat Tran Passengers: Southwest Off Campus UA Mall Route will be relocated to east of the Martin Ave & 2nd Street intersection.
  *   Cyclists: Detours will be posted to reroute onto campus.


Cherry Avenue Closure

There will be a hard closure of Cherry Avenue between Hawthorne and north of 4th Street at the entrance of the lot near Optical Science.   The closure will be April 11-13, 2014, 3:30pm to 1am on Friday, at 9am to 1am on Saturday and 9am to 11pm on Sunday.


Event Parking

Parking and Transportation will provide free visitor parking in surface lots after 3pm on Friday, April 11th and all day Saturday and Sunday.  This is based on a space available basis.

Cherry Garage:  There is $5 pre-pay parking fee in Cherry Avenue Garage on Friday, April 11th.  There is no fee to park in campus garages on Saturday and Sunday, April 12thand 13th.

*Special Note:  Noise*

Deliveries involving large machinery and trucks will begin Monday, April 7th. A certain amount of noise is unavoidable, but Spring Fling will be consciously lessening unnecessary noise.

This is an exciting time for Spring Fling as 2014 marks the 40th Anniversary. We do welcome any feedback through our email address, website, or office/hotline number. Our hotline will be active starting the morning of April 7th, but otherwise the number directs to our office. I greatly appreciate the flexibility and support that the campus community has shown regarding the return of Spring Fling. After 40 years, there's still nothing else like it!
